The guy was basically trying to flog me another phone. He asked what I was interested in I said GPS and camera, he proceeded to rubbish them both...

But to be honest this was the least helpful of the 3 people I spoke to that day.

Vodafone person did this to me too - said it was the most returned phone due to poor battery life and people having to charge it every day - also said there were loads of technical glitches.

Just noticed that on the Orange website, for an 18 month contract you can get the phone for £90 with a £35 tariff, free ORange broadband and £100 cahsback.

In other words, similar to last weekend's offer, but without the free phone. At least the cashback subisdises this though.
  • To anyone who took out the same deal as me, I have just been told I don't have insurance on my phone even though I was meant to get 3 months free. Going to have to find out why not. Just wanted to let people know so they don't think their insured when you may not be.

Someone asked here on the net situation with Vodafone. When I spoke to them on Friday, they said it's up to £1 for up to 0.5MB per day, and a flat £1 up to 15MB per day. If you don't use any net on a given day there is no charge. Or there's £7.50 for 120MB a month.

I've said it b4 and I'll say it again - there is no point in buying the N95 unless you have an unlimited data plan. If you do you'll find yourself tearing your hair out in frustration at not being able to make full use of all its features.

Vodafone's £7.50/120MB/month tariff is a joke - you'll only be able to download a few podcasts and can forget about downloading videos or streaming TV.

Wireless internet is free. No problems with that, but you'll soon want to use all those web browsing features when you can't get to a wireless network (or you'll have to pay for it from a wireless hotspot)

I've run into this with Virgin Mobile (I get a cheap employee deal) but I'm thinking of returning it because the data rates are hideous (0.5p per Kb) and swapping to T-Mobile for the Web 'n' Walk tariff.

Turn on the wlan scanning and it brings up all the networks it finds, it's just a case of trying them until you find an insecure / free network and away you go;)

  • Another update.

Just got a "Welcome to Vodafone" call from Vodafone. I think today is my 15th day so they're obviously pleased I havn't cancelled. Although it came over as more of a trying to sell me more things call I did sort a few things such as insurance.

The lady asked if I want to extent my contract by 6 months on the current tariff which is a great offer etc. I declined.

She was able to activate my insurance which is 3 months free which I'll be cancelling after thats up.

She also confirmed my tariff and Vodafone Passport as well as telling me loads of things I already knew lol.

All in all the call lasted 11 minutes and apart from feeling like a sales call instead of a real inquiry about how I was getting on it wasn't bad.

login_details, you are of course right that the Voda deal would not be right for anyone wanting to substitute their internet line for the N95.

In this case, the cheapest I could find would be T-Mobile Flext 35, 500 mins/800 sms with Web n Walk Plus working out at £237 for the year on a 12 months contract after cashback (approx £19 a month or £47,50 direct debit). This would give you 3GB allowance per month, but you cannot make internet phone calls. If you need the use of internet telephony you'd need to upgrade to Web n Walk Max which i could not find a cashback deal for.

I got the above deal info from onecompare.com, moneysupermarket.com also lists Web n Walk, but doesn't mention Plus even for the higher priced deals, unless it's hidden under the details section.
