carinjo said:Hi @Frogletina, think doing a clean sweep is a great idea. Make sure to do a search first of how long things can still be ok for (i checked before going away and eggs can be ok for 3 - 5weeks after sell by date!)
If you are attempting to loose weight (like i will be soon) then don't just replace old for new, unless you really need to. I went from having all kinds of flours to just 2.
If you don't drink coffee, then just offer guests what you have, or buy small tin "posh" coffee, less waste and they will appreciate the treat i think.
Use your daughter and neighbours to get rid of things, can always turn it into dishes and treats and gift over Christmas.
I am steadily getting through my things. I have thrown a few bits away and using others up.
I have not bought a single item this month and I am substituting different things.
Your idea of not replacing like for like is a good idea.
My marmalade ran out but as much as I like it I'm going to use up some pina colada conserve that I can just about tolerate. Then I'll start on the lime mohito conserve...they both seemed a good idea at the time.
I've also got two cranberry sauce for Christmas, one opened from last year. Both in date.
I've made two bakewell tarts. Took one to my Auntie and the other one plus a quiche will go on Sunday to my daughter's house.
The coffee I have is enough to last at least two more years. I don't have many visitors.
I've a cheesecake mix but no milk to make it up. Milk is the one thing I'm missing at the moment
I've enough potatoes and veg for two more days plus 5 slices of frozen bread.
I'm loving my new strategy

It sounds like it going very well! Are you keeping track of the money you saving by not buying?
Regarding the milk: it ok i think to buy essentials, the strategy being not to waste either what you have, or buying what you don't need. But congrats on doing so well.

Not been on for so long I'd be writing War & Peace if I tried to post all the freezer comings & goings, especially as the Solstice dinner has come and gone and a lot of the stuff has been frozen then taken out for it:
In: 2 cheesecakes , 1 coffee flan (t, 1 very large beef bourguignonne, 1 pack smoked salmon, about 75g proscuitto (put in yesterday as left over), remaining focaccia (for stuffing)
Out: 1 of the cheesecakes, coffee flan, beef bourguignonne
Still in the fridge - the remaining beef, an awful lot of cheese (various), grapes, tomatoes
Due to come out for Xmas:
Duck, smoked salmon, bagels, trifle sponge, raspberries2024 Fashion on the Ration - 10/66 coupons used

I am spending Christmas day at my granddaughter's house. I've already made one of the main courses, a chestnut roast.
My birthday was yesterday and my granddaughter gave me a bottle of Champagne so that's what we will have on Christmas day too.
So far, so good.Not Rachmaninov

Just back from a couple of weeks in France. Brought some stew veg back with us so going to make a beef stew with some of the frozen beef which I defrosted yesterday. Some will be for dinner tomorrow but no doubt there will be some to have either the following for lunch or into the freezer for another meal, depending on how much is left!
Edit: 2 boxes of 2 good sized portions have gone into the freezer0 -
