I've spent the morning batch cooking as I have need to have several meals frozen for next week so my DH can eat as next Monday is the day I have my knee replaced and I don't expect to be home and mobile until the end of the week.

OUT from the freezers:- a large breast of turkey, turkey thigh, bacon, uncooked apricot stuffing, chestnuts, large venison fillet, pate, onions, garlic, puff pastry, bramley apples, freezer mincemeat, egg whites, more frozen fruit from the veg plot (blackberries, red/white and black currents, rhubarb, raspberries), peas, dwarf green beans
OUT from store/veg plot, fridge and cupboards - potatoes, carrots, leeks, sprouts kale, pears, oranges, parsnips, swede, celery.

IN:- 10 x partly cooked turkey and bacon 'swiss rolls' with apricot stuffing,
1 x turkey thigh, cooked but not brown
7 x partly cooked venison wellingtons
3 x venison casseroles with sliced potato topping
3 x apple and mincemeat puffs
2 x apple and berry pies
2 x rhubarb and orange crumbles
    4 x berry crumbles
6 x pears in red wine
32 meringues I just need to dip the bases in chocolate
10 x individual portions of potato mash
8 x vegetables two types in each container egs cooked sprouts with chestnuts and bacon plus peas, or swede and carrot mash plus green beans.

Obviously one person cannot eat all that in one week so it will stand us in good stead for when I come home to the usual words of 'What's for Tea' My DH has never mastered the art of how to turn on the cooker but he's pretty brilliant at things I can't do like mending broken legs. :)

I just put everything he needs in the kitchen freezer - which includes some previously made items not on the list above - each with instructions on how to reheat them. I just need to make a menu plan for him and check he knows where the kitchen freezer is :rotfl::rotfl:

PHEW!!!! Now to tidy up and have a cup of coffee
  • Instead of putting ys veg in freezers I have cooked stir fry (for 2 days meals) and a sc full of veg curry, at least 2 for freezers, going to make soup, maybe 2 for freezers. Cupboard use was some Marigold curry and a tin of new potatoes, used up the remainder of a red pepper and some cooked chicken. Think I am going the wrong way.
  • Out: dried pinto beans, onion, stew meat, frozen asada sauce
Overprepare, then go with the flow.
