No change to my mini challenge "use up" figure. Just one food purchase, as somebody offered to get me groceries from a shop in town which I rarely go to.
Thanks, it's been interesting to read about your aims (regarding this challenge).0 -
Planning what to eat today, have 4 aubergines, so thinking to pop into Aldi get some courgettes and make a sort of ratatouille, got loads of onions red and white, mushrooms in Super 6, got garlic just got to think of what meat/fish to eat with it, and freeze excess.Do I need it or just want it.0

Went Aldi yesterday, no super 6 mushrooms, so bought big tray of white, some to go in afore mentioned ratatouille, 2 packs of courgettes 1 pack of mixed peppers, also bought some y.s. minced beef, a lot of the household goods being reduced probably to make way for Christmas stock, chopped aubergines and courgettes onto 2 trays all the time thinking this is a massive amount, so had to cook them first, open freezing will cook remaining veg today and also freeze, then just amalgamate as required.BACKFIRED hugely,
Took friend to Drs, next to Morries bought a y.s pork loin and a y.s. breast of lamb, 4 jars of y.s.sliced lemons, I use 2 slices in hot water every day in morning drink, so a lot more went IN than out yesterday.Do I need it or just want it.0 -
In: jointed whole chicken
Out: HM mash, sausages
Used up: cooked ham0 -
My "use up" number has increased to 34/100 so far this month. (Made easier by my bread based recipes containing various ingredients/added toppings). Oops, did "grab" some "yellow-stickers" recently and more food flavourings. Not in the freezer yet, although the drawers being currently used are 2 from 4 whereby quite a lot of it is free food.0

My fridge is looking emptier than the end of August but still got 2 whole cabbages and a last stub to go. I feel a cabbage soup coming on!
The meat drawer is down to only about 10-12 items now. 3 of which are fish (which DH never fancies!) and 3 are shell-fish. I want to use up more before I buy meat again.
We will finish the leek-sheet lasagne this evening so no need to shop today.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £9586.01 out of £6000 after August (158.45%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £2135.07/£3000 or 71.17% of my annual spend so far

My recent 'freezer sort-out' revealed two tiny freezer bags, each with 2 gluten-free sausages in .............. 2 Lincoln and 2 plain Pork.
Tonights meal will be a sort-of 'Spicy Sausage Casserole' done in the skillet - using diced red onion, couple of garlic cloves, paprika/mild chilli/cayenne, some frozen mixed peppers, courgette, mushrooms, tinned chopped toms, chickpeas and served with GF pasta and home-made GF garlic bread :j.
Due to recent A$DA delivery, I've got a 'bursting fridge'. Quite a bit of 'meat' that needs to be portioned up and added to the Freezer in convenient/thrifty useable sizes. But how come I managed to forget to order 'fresh milk'?0 -
In: HM chicken stock, chicken carcass pickings for soup
Out: pea & ham soup, chicken wings, corn cobette
Used up: brambles (given to my Dad)0 -
OUT cod loin which I ate with cauli mash and butter sauteed cabbage.
Planning a freezer reorganization this morning as a few spaces appearing and need to fetch out meats for use until Tuesday.
OUT will come, steak for tonight, 1/2 a chicken to roast for Sunday lunch and finish off Monday, 3 thighs for dog, and a pork shank which my sister and I will eat Tuesday.Do I need it or just want it.0 -
I've finally dealt with portioning the meat from the A$DA delivery so:
INTO Freezer - 4 x 2 Pork Loin Steaks; 2 x 2 Turkey Steaks; 2 x 2 Gammon Steaks; 4 x 8ozs Minced Beef; 2 x 8ozs Liver. One container of Spicy Sausage Casserole left over from last night - managed to get 3 portions out of 4 pork sausages plus vegetables/chickpeas :j! 1 bag Sweetcorn. 1 pack of Potato Waffles. 1 bag Home Chips. 1 pack of Hash Browns.
OUT of Freezer - 2 Butcher's Hand Made Burgers (whoopsied). 2 Gluten Free Brioche Buns (also whoopsied - for tonight's burgers). 2 Chicken Leg Quarters for tomorrow's evening meal. 4 Slices Roast Beef for sandwiches for tomorrow's lunch.
OUT of Veg Cupboard - Potatoes (beginning to sprout) for Actifry Chips.0
