Morning, All
I've not been able to post for a while, due to hospital visits getting in the way and having to reschedule my days around them, but I have been busy clearing the backlog as best I can and it is now well and truly under control:) Very little has gone in - mainly due to the fact that I have not been in a supermarket for a few weeks and relying on online shopping for essentials. We have had some weird and unseasonal things to eat, though... OH has not been too happy at eating the vast number of unidentifiable "casseroles" I have given him, but everything that has gone into the freezer since I joined here is now labelled! Joe - on the other hand - has (so he says) really enjoyed the defrost-and-see-what-it-is element of his meals. He continues to supply me with veg and I've had some lovely rainbow chard from him recently, together with a load of shallots which I must pickle today before they pass their best.
It is great to read of so many getting to grips with their hoarding: shows it is achievable! II am hoping to clear wardrobes soon, which I think may be harder. I pull everything out and usually end up putting most of it back. Strange that it seems to take up more space than it did originally:(
Anyhow, I hope to get back on a bit more and love to read of everyone's success. I promise to try to keep my posts a bit shorter though!
OUT TODAY: fish pies (one for Joe). Chicken to cook for the mutt - it's got freezer burn (the chicken: not the dog).
IN TODAY (hopefully): Rainbow chard. And must pickle the shallots in time for Christmas.0 -
Out: Some beef mince, few tiny prawns, peas
In: More thyme and basil, and some nasturtium leaves (no idea if they will be a culinary success but worth a try!!)
We're away next week so i'm trying to use up fresh fruit veg and salad, so meals might be a bit odd over the next few days, but shepherds pie tonight which will finish off the potatoes! Going to have to put the greens of the spring onions in them as I'm not buying onions now0 -
Out: 8 pucks of frozen spinach
In: 3 portions of chicken, paneer and veg curry made from the spinach and the previously defrosted chicken and stock!0 -
The online (food) grocery order arrived yesterday which had a lot not sent ("item unavailable"), or one product missing and one not requested. I had accounted for this happening anyway plus the wrong product will probably be free. What was sent should not "distract" me too much from using up pre-September 2018 purchases?
Used up some vegetable pate today so 25/100 items used up (relevant to the above date).0 -
Out today, 1/2 a tagine mix and some diced beef
IN 2 reduced loaves, gammon joint, Lidl
bag of avocado halves, diced pheasant, diced venison, 2 lge cod fillets. courtesy of the new food warehouse by iceland opened yesterday, hate the shop in town seldom go in, found this to be a pleasant experience.Do I need it or just want it.0 -
I like the idea of In and Out. Currently mine is constantly Out. My cupboards are slowly getting lighter and lighter.... it's surprisingly liberating. My aim is to have them almost bare for Christmas. I will start again next year.
So, I found an old tin of sardines today, barely in date. Grabbed a cheap salad from the shop and that's lunch. Yeah it's not great, but it feels good to be eating on the cheap for once0 -
In: nothing
Out: chicken wings, corn cobette
Used up: nothing0
