At the end of last month, two freezer drawers from four were empty. It was difficult to comment about whether it kept the cost of new food purchases down. Mainly due to being "over stocked" with UHT milk and taking advantage of an offer on some regularly purchased store cupboard items (long-dated). At the moment, it appears that two drawers are still empty.0

caronc and all, I think things are "working" to use up what I have stored; well, at the moment? When anything has gone into the freezer, something has mostly come out.
This month has been productive so far, both in money saving and using up what I have. "Not much" acquired from local shops, or online. The exception has been stocking up on a regularly used store cupboard ingredient (but on offer). The garden and foraging has provided some salad items. Stir fries and a pizza also have all sorts used.0 -
I'm still finding that I take something out, cook it into something and what then needs frozen takes up as much, if not more, space!

That is what tends to happen with me caronc. Turn it into something else and then, "How can I get through all that in a few days?"
Recently, working upon various "veg gluts". All the baked and pickled mushrooms have been used. Just some on top of a pizza left. Lots of carrots the next task.
No bank holiday online shopping done so just my online food grocery order soon.0 -
I suppose we should be pleased if we put more in than out in this way - frugal. I am slowly winning the battle, just keep making soup though to use up stalks and cooking liquid so that ends up in freezers too. Never mind, onward and upward guys.:beer:0

Very interested in pickled mushrooms, have looked for recipes but wondered which one is best. Also, once pickles, how long do they last, the recipes seem to say around a few weeks but as I am on my own was hoping they would last like pickled onions - possibly months or years !! Many thanks0
