  • Hi, well I have been away at the van since last Thursday and made most
Of our meals from the freezer, chicken, sausage and salmon fillets.
Had salmon burgers today as well . Have a good week all x
It's all staring us in the face...we just can't see it!!!

  • NSD today as I'm not leaving the house! Cooked a load of sausages last night but unfortunately four went to the dogs as they got a little bit too crispy when I was distracted. Oops.

Out: chicken, stir fry veg, noodles (can you guess what I'm making for dinner?!)

In: nothing! I'm getting the hang of it. Let's see how the weekend goes.

I want to use up some giant cous cous. Had it at a food festival with braised lamb shank and pesto and it was delish. Only 79p a bag from Aldi so hopefully I can convince DH it'll be delicious.
  • Day 4 of no grocery spends, so no INS, loads of OUTS, soups, veggie burgers & buns, veggie curry, rice, the list goes on. I am doing a biggish shop 2moz, as run out of coffee, plant milk, running low(ish) on fruit, cucumber. Lidl I think are doing a load of veggie/vegan stuff, so will have to take a look, but will keep it minimal.

Right - gotta get back on track again.

We were away 3 weeks on holiday (actually a friend's wedding in America) then back home to immediately making extra meals for mum (she has beginnings of dementia). So I went from nothing in or out, to lots of stuff going out, but didn't keep track.

Sadly, we found some excellent YS food (got distracted whilst buying essentials like milk). So the gaps in the freezer were filled up again.
I say "the freezer" but I actually have 4 freezers. All full.

However, next week we have brother- and sister-in-law coming to stay for a week. The day after they leave, we have friends coming to stay for a week - and they have 3 kids. So I'm hoping to use up a lot from the freezer and cupboards during August!!

Any ideas for using up jelly (apart from trifle)? I went crazy in Bookers a while back and bought catering packs of orange jelly and strawberry jelly (they were half price. . . .)

Zafiro - if you still have the white bread crusts you could either make them into breadcrumbs and freeze them (or dry them in the oven and put in a jar) or you could make bread-and-butter pudding (sweet or savoury).

Somewhere in the depths of one of my 4 bookcases of cookery books, I have a wartime leaflet telling of ways to 'use up stale bread'. I'll see if I can find it.

    8th August 2017 update :-

Decided to no longer keep a running total of food ingredients and recipes used up. Instead, will continue this challenge to see how much money I can save on my monthly food groceries budget.

No (food) spend days this month = 8/8.

    Hi nodette,

First thing I thought of was putting any spare fruit in the jelly. However, I think it would be best to first research what fruit works best and how to set it. Also, maybe check "jelly cheesecake".

    quite proud of myself

about a month ago we had a bbq and hubbies sister was coming who is vegetarian. I bought some quorn sausages and burgers with the intent of using them but she turned up with her own. They have been sat in the fridge ever since

I have made a sausage casserole today with them for me to eat as lunches. Never had quorn before but going to give it a go. The burgers will be eaten over the next day or two as well

out - quorn sausages, salmon, moroccon cous cous, finished a pack of spinach and a pack of peppers
    in - nothing.

    total grocery spend mtd £60.30
