Eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge - part two

very industrious!
I made a vat of tomato and veg sauce yesterday to use up things lurking in the fridge - will use 1 portion tonight in sausage casserole but the other 3 will go in the freezer. I also blanched most of a head of cauli and that is now in the freezer too. In the past these things would have got binned. Tomorrow dinner will be HM coleslaw on the side of 'use it up' pizza and then the remaining red cabbage will be frozen too. I am going to try and do the pizza dough in the breadmaker, a new one for me, because we have loads of flour. I don't usually make pizza as I am not a big fan of bread or cheese but we have various cold meats and cheeses left from xmas so they will all go on top. I might use some more of the tomato sauce for this too. A generous amount of chilli will help to mask the cheeseI’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

Maiden mum, can't go wrong with leek and potato soup. I love it. However I am a chuck in this and that girl. It's rare I completely follow a recipe.
Those two empty freezer drawers are now full! That said it was a planned restock. Turkey mince came out for a chilli tonight, along with kidney beans in a chili sauce that I bought by mistake last month. Will also use the last of the garlic, some onion, a tin of tomatoes, basmati rice and some veg.
Anyway, we've bulked up for the month so let's run it all back down again,!0 -
Thanks Franalana although I have to confess leek & potato soup is one of the few soups that I do not like plus I only actually have 1 leek anyway!
I shall a look in the Grocery challenge thread at all the recipes that are at the beginning.0 -
Hi,
Current food grocery spends are £25.02 for this month. £6.54 of this are presents for somebody plus animal feed. A UHT milk top-up took up a lot of the total cost and are on a kitchen surface, only a few items went in the fridge, a few items went into the store cupboard but no purchases to the freezer. However, I still feel that there is a lot to use up from total "stores". It should be two weeks before the next grocery online order so will see what can be achieved in using up stores in the meantime.0 -
Could be worse. Lots of fish and raspberries bought and added to freezer. Also baked more butternut squash brownies.
Out for tonight - 2 baseball steaks. Chips will also be used. Celebrating end of DH's studies for the time being. Exams were today.Goals - Weight loss 6/26lb at 22nd Jan 18Mmmm. 26lb at 1/7/18. Oops:o0 -
In:- Nothing
Out:- 1 cupasoup, 1 portion fish fingers, 1 portion oven chips, 1 portion of peas and 1 tin of baked beans0 -
I may need to go through my hoard and my supermarket.com and see how much I have invested in food that we have not eaten. Hopefully this will remotivate me and remind me why I am doing this!
I am feeling dangerously well-off at the moment (it won't last) and spontaneously popped into MAS and picked up a pack of socks and one of knickers - on my walk from the station to work at just before 08.00 this morning.
I had already felt "that feeling" and made a mortgage overpayment last night but still felt I could spend £17 on underwear. Good grief woman, get a grip!
SLSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

Just saying

Thanks for this Suffolk Lass... I'm sure I replied earlier on but can't see it here - I used up a few shredded bendy sprouts cooked with bacon pieces and a bit of brie melted into it all for an impromptu yet delicious brunch. Have put 32 quarters of brie into the freezer in individual bags, 4/5 of a piece started today in the fridge to use up over the next few days. Also put a large camembert into the freezer for baking with chilli jam at some point. I think your idea of looking at the costs of your stores would be really useful for reminding me of the need for me to do this... But would be severely shocked I am sure.
Finally that job can be ticked off!!
DS cooked chilli con carne for tea which was lush but although he cooked less than usual (as OH isn't here this week) there is STILL leftovers so a portion for the fridge.
IN: brie & camembert to freezer; chilli con carne to fridge
OUT: mince (F), beans, chopped tomatoes, spices, pack of doritos from Christmas, cheese, natural yogurt, cooking bacon scraps and veg from fridge; 'fresh' mango used up (it was very past it's best!)
Tomorrow we will be using up a chicken and bacon traybake which has been in the freezer for ages. Don't know what it actually is as was a YS ready meal thingy. Will serve with carrots and savoy cabbage and celebrate it being gone out of the freezer.
NSD #5 today for February. Pleased with this and nothing needed tomorrow either. Friday should see me needing a few bits and bobs but I don't anticipate a large spend.0 -

Heh K9sandFelines - from this bit you've posted about the local food club I suspect we are in the same town and I am also a member of the food club too? Not naming the town but do you have a new B&M shop where the co-op used to be? Small world if so!!
