How to fall in love with saving money

i went to a vending machine today and it had 5p credit. no change. so I put in another 5p and pressed the change button - got a 10p!
That is 100% return on my investment for 1 seconds work. Has anyone had a more lucrative deal recently?0 -

I think you win though as you ended up 5p up, and I ended up 70p downI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine0 -
Love that - not quite the same, but I put 70p in the vending machine (in lieu of lunch) to get a boost bar, because there was one dangling and I got two for one. doesn't always work but that was sweet (too sweet actually).

This happened to me recently with two Kit Kats, although the second one ended up dangling as well, so I had to rope in a friend to help me rock the vending machine back and forward in an undignified manner until it let the second Kit Kat go, and I then felt obliged to share the second Kit Kat with my friend. But I still felt I ended up ahead0 -
Hey Cathy, just popping in to say I'm working my way through your inspiring diary, really enjoying reading it!
My mum is the same with books, she has hundreds but really struggles to get rid of any. If that's what makes her happy though it's fine by me0 -

In Paris today, not very money saving but it is very nice. I got the Eurostar tickets through the MSE email on a very cheap deal so there's that. Great city, Paris.0

Spend less money than you earn and save the difference, which means keeping the written log of the money that are being spent. You can also read suggestions given by Money Saving Expert on various websites.0

Enjoy Paris, Cathy!0

Thanks WantToBeSE
Paris is beautiful. I'm just heading out now - I'm going to spend a lot of time just walking by the Seine and round the city, so that at least is cheap. Back tomorrow. Being an optimist and hoping for signs of spring (blossom etc). Hope you and the new car are both well
