I'm feeling very proud to be taking part in some money saving challenges on mse! Long live MSE, indeed!

I'm not so much of a book hoarder- I do love reading but don't get much time to read with a one year old and working almost full time. I had a room full of books before I moved out of my parents house but when I moved into the small flat that husband and I bought, the collection was donated to charity and I kept about 10 books that I just couldn't bare to part with.

I tend to not really buy many books anymore because, frankly, I just don't get enough time to read! I tried to make bath time my time to read, but more often than not now, I take a shower instead just because it's quicker and I can get to my bed quicker for sleep!! Haha i read about 50 books during my pregnancy so really miss it.

    Anyway, enough of my moaning!

I managed to do my weekly shop in Aldi yesterday for £28.97. There are four things that I need to get from another supermarket today that should total no more than £10 so a total weekly shop for the three of a for £38.97 max is fab! I should only need a bread and milk top up which will be another couple of pounds. Yes!

Also, I put £4 into my £ tin.

Counting down the days until pay day- 4 days!! Husband gets his weekly pay tomorrow but I don't think we'll save from that. Jude keep it towards the big end of month bills!
    CC1: £4481.14/ £5031.14 (12% paid off, £600) | CC2:£3307/ £3807 (14.4% paid off, £550) | Loan: £10,528.20/ £15,792.30((33% paid off, £5,264))

July debt total: £24,630.44 | New debt total: £18,316.34 | Total debt paid: £6,414.10 (26%)

  • Thanks Cathy bird, I really hope I do get close to my goal, anything else will just be a bonus. Iv got a new bathroom getting put in soon and replacing an asbestos garage roof aswel so I can get power in there so I can use my weights and punchbag(free workouts as already own everything I need :D) As I need to tone up a bit more. Raining at work this morning but just working on through it, need to make money!! Hope everyone has a good day considering it's Monday and I worked all weekend I'm quite fresh!

Yes, it is, but can be cut off bone and taken into work with potatoes, I would have thought? The first meal would be a comfy dinner and then there would be leftovers. That's what I was thinking, anyway.

Re MSE, no there's no way of validating it and I'm sure there are countless people who have never even posted on the forums who have used the guides to how to save money on utilities, credit cards etc. So, the total figure must be absolutely huge.

I dont' serve it with pots, I use the trad Risotto milanese, but creamy mash could work?

I agree the figure is huge, just look at all those who have used the Debt free wannabe board to get themselves up and out? Add on those who go on to having savings (diaries or not) and it has to be huge?

Looking good so far savings wise, and home improvements are important to do on occasion. That is the kind of spending we can get behind.
  • Thanks, this thread is inspiring. I am a fairly high earner and self employed. I finally managed to get out of my overdraft and haven't spent anything for a few months now, except on bills. I'm getting married next year and hoping to buy a house within 2, so really have to now fall in love with saving! These tips are very helpful :)

Thanks CreditCrunchie :) All the tips MSE-ers kindly posted on this thread were incredibly helpful for me too. I have definitely got the savings bug over the past three or so months so I am quite sure you can too. :)

I remember making it back in the day and serving it up in a big casserole thing. I can't remember what I served with it - potatoes? ... Anyway, never mind. I'd really like to make it again now. I'm putting it on the list :)

The figure I am sure is well into (I would guess) many millions, shame it's basically impossible to calculate.

Asbestos garage roof, sounds a bit hazardous to the health? ... :( But it's all work, I'm sure. It's good having weights at home - when I can lever myself off the sofa I plan to work out with them this afternoon myself :) And I hope you've had a good day too - I've been at home but got a few things done, it's not been too unproductive.

I am a book hoarder and not really prepared to change that since I love having them round the place but I'm sure there are some books I could get rid of for perhaps a little money that I could put towards the savings goal. I must try to sort that out - it will be a slow, gradual thing though, I suspect.

£28.97 is a pretty respectable figure for a weekly shop - you're doing better than me on that front, JoJoC. :)

If you pay HRTax, have you started a pension? Are you a liinted company? As a HRTaxpayer, 100 into your pension costs you only 60. It is one of the best things you can do for your future, and is more important than a wedding.
