I attempted to contact cpw, e2save, mobilephonesontheweb & phones4u via email.

The only one to give me the information I wanted was actually mobilephonesontheweb... got a polite call back, ran through details of the cashback process, deal etc (and no push to buy).

cpw hasn't responded, e2save returned a "please call" automated bounce whilst phones4u obviously didn't red my question although there was a vague flicker of life in the email.

divorcingjack - let me know how it goes. (of course I'd really want to know what it's like 5 months in!)

    Well,

I've gone for the contract with mobilephonesontheweb. Vodafone, 500 minutes, 250 texts, Samsung U600 and 12 months free by cashback.

They did quite a prompt callback and my Quidco cashback tracked within 5 minutes and has now been validated (next day).

I recieved an order confirmation email this morning (day follwing my order), so all seems positive so far. I will keep eveyone updated with how this goes.

    Fingers crossed!

and ditto to what planetf1 said...cheers mate

i still dont understand how they can offer such deals...because basically as long as you dont go over your allocated minutes and texts they're not gonna earn a penny from you are they? or am i missing something? also do you have to stay on longer than 12months so that you can get your final 12month cashback

  • Well - a mobilephonesontheweb update from me.

I ordered the Samsung U600 on Wednesday 20th June, with a porting request from Orange to Vodafone Anytime 500 contract.

Recieved a confirmation email with my reference code on Thursday 21st.

This morning at 8.30am (saturday 23rd), my very shiny and quite snazzy phone arrived special delivery. :D Unbranded and unlocked to all networks. The Vodafone SIM wasn't letting me make any calls "limited service" and my Orange SIM was still active, so I was concerned that the port had not been processed.

However, just got off the phone with Vodafone, and my account has been set up correctly and my port is due to complete on the 28th.

Quite impressed so far I must say. :T

I'll update everyone if the phone is connected sucessfully on Thursday. Is anyone else going for this deal?? (or am I on my own?)

  • Voddyman,

My take on how they can offer the deals is that they basically rely on people forgetting to claim or doing it not according to the T's & C's. The proportion of people denied cashback must pay for the few that bother to take up these deals.

I had a deal with Cool new mobile last year and it worked out great for me £360 back and a free phone + Quidco cashback. There's a huge range of experiences, but personally, I'm willing to take the risk.

I ended up staying an extra month with Orange, but that was because I wanted to wait until the Samsung U600 was available with 12 months free, so it probably cost me £30, which I think is fair enough.

    Best wishes,

    dj

    In their FAQ:

"How does the cashback system work?
When you receive the relevant mobile phone bills (the 5th, 9th, 11th and 12th bills for a 12 month contract, or the 6th, 9th, 14th, 17th and 18th bills for an 18 month contract) you send the Service Plan page of the bill to our Accounts Department along with your unique Cashback Claim Code (CCC), which you will receive with, or very soon after, your handset. The only exception is the first claim, for which you will need to send the Service Plan page from both your first bill, and the appropriate month’s one, along with your CCC. You can send your claims in by post or by fax, but if you are posting your claims, you must use a recorded delivery service"

Does anyone know what their fax number is for claiming cashback?
  • To be honest voddyman, I'm not sure if you would have to stay for the full 12 months to get the final cashback.

I think quite a lot of people on this forum have worked out their 30 days notice to the day and have recieved their final bill in time to claim the cashback.

I was too disorganised to do it this time, but I'll give it a go next year. Although, the final cashback is £105!

AP: Yeah, I noticed the fax option as well! There's no fax number on any of the correspondence they sent me, but it does say in the T&C's that they will send you a text upon receipt of your bill. I might ask customer service about it a bit closer to the time. Nothing on their website either. If you find it out, please post it on here!

Just wondering, it might be the same as one of the phone numbers?

    Dj,
Did you get any T&Cs with the phone - any surprises or was it as per the web site?

I've been trying to order a Voda 7373 this weekend, but their web site is partly broken - the "contact us" form is mostly broken, and my attempt to place an order also failed (error 404 on the final steps). I've tried in IE7, firefox 2 - I think it's a backend issue. Hopefully temporary since it looks like you ordered ok?

I called up - was answered quickly and they asked if I wanted to order over the phone, but I've emailed them and hope the site is working properly on Monday so I can get my quidco!!

The biggest issue with many of the CB deals at the moment is that they're moving to 14 day claims (a few at 21). This is 28 which is reasonable.
