I just got a call directly from Vodafone regarding my contract with mobilephonesontheweb, you know the one from Birmingham where they went belly up & we lost all our cashback recently!

VODAFONE have just phoned me & offered the following (to save a loss of thousands of customers I suspect)...

    1. To cancel the contract after one months time without penalty (& don't even want the phone back)!!
    2. To pay half price line rental until the contract expires (but keep the same minutes & texts).
    3. & I like this one the best...if you say "no thanks i'm not interested & would like to cancel my contract", they will then (or should) offer you the following...as they did with me...

PAY JUST £5 PER MONTH UNTIL THE CONTRACT EXPIRES NATURALLY & KEEP THE SAME AMOUNT OF MINUTES & TEXTS. IN MY CASE 500M/250T

    whooooppppeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

    Now that's a result...it was looking grim for a while....WELL DONE VODAFONE !!!!!!

I just called Orange and they downgraded me from Canary 40 (£40 per month) to Racoon 25 (£25 per month) from the next billing date - no arguments/no questions asked. I am in the 4th month of my 12-month contract. This is not entirely satisfactory but will have to do for now.

I will call them again after I have been with them for 6 months and see if they would do another downgrade, possibly to OVP EQ Vodafone 30 - £15 per month.

Someone posted this link on another thread earlier. Might help those on Vodafone contracts who aren't yet aware of it:-

Your contract is with Vodafone, not MPOW - they are history and your contract with them was separate and to do with cashbacks. Vodafone are the people to call.

Thanks but I spoken to vodafone customer service agent and he said to me I have to wait for special team to call me back. He cant do any thing. Is there any other number where I can contact that special team.

Not that I know of; I assume there isn't one on this thread (don't remember seeing one but there might be). Vodafone can be an absolute pain to deal with sometimes. At others they can be ok. You pays your money and...!
  • pksaraf has posted this on a related thread, so looks like there is a number:-

"Call 0870 0779 779, you will be put straight to the right team.

tell them that you bought the contract through mpotw/dialamobile/... and you bought the contract only because of the cashback. u cant afford the payments and you want to terminate.

they will straight away tell you that they are aware of the issua and offer you 50% line rental reduction - no questions asked.

politely refuse and tell them u cant afford and your friend got given £5 pm offer. and u have spoken to trading standards that you can cancel the contract.

they will agree to £5 pm, no problems.

    so get going!"
  • This number above gets you through to the collections department - they weren't very helpful for me, but put me through to the general CS team.

If you tell the agent to check with their manager, the £5 deal is officially sacntioned and allowed to be offered by the general agents. Don't waste time waiting for them to contact you. If you get someone unhelpful, just keep trying.

Good luck! I got a confirmation email from the customer service person I was dealing with (called Emma).
