  • Unfortunately Vodafone are passing the buck and getting everyone to phone a company called Dextra Solutions who are dealing with cashback queries and complaints.

    Their number is 0800 0936080.

I've just got through to a very helpful agent who took all my details and confirmed sadly that mobilephonesontheweb are the same company as dial-a-mobile and they are going into administration.

They are authorised to cancel contracts for customers who have signed up within the past 14 days, but have no information for the poor suckers who have had a contract longer than that.

I asked her about cancelling with Vodafone and whether the T&C's of MPOTW would still be enforceable, but she couldn't confirm anything.

They are passing all details on to the official administrator, who will be contacting all customers by Friday with an update on the situation. I'm going to hang off till friday and see what they have to say, and then get on to Vodafone to see if they will let me cancel.

Looks like trading standards will have something to say about it as well. Wasn't there some agreement that all the networks signed up to a while ago about standards of customer care related to thrid party cashback?

Ah well, nothing to be done until friday.

She is also asking for copies of t&C's, leaflets, fliers - any related information to be faxed to their office: 0870085257.

    Good luck everyone.

  • Hi -
I am coming up to making my first cashback claim with mobilephonesontheweb - It sounds like this won't be turning up. Anyone know where I stand with regards to cutting my losses and cutting short my 12 month contract with vodafone? (I'm currently in month 4). Or is it worth hanging on and seeing what happens? Thanks.

I've ordered a phone & waited for port to Vodaphone. Contradictory info from customer services, verifications and Vodaphone. This morning the MPotW website seems to have disappeared and no response from any of their phone numbers. Anybody know what's going on?

More importantly, where shall I order now - I want a 12 month cashback deal and my Orange PAC expires on 23 July? Help!
If your PAC isn't used your line should stay in tact - call Orange and confirm.
The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster! :)

I'm in the same situation Danmania, 4 months into a Vodafone contract. Well, there's good and bad news. MPOTW are definately in administration with Tenon Group, so no cashback will be paid.

I spent most of yesterday afternoon holding on the Vodafone CS line, awaiting an opportunity to plead my case for disconnection or a downgrade from my £35.month contract. After speaking to some daisy who transferred me to the technical fault team; who then transferred me back to the rear of the CS queue :mad:., I finally got to speak to someone else monumentally useless.

He said that he couldn't do anything, and it wasn't vodafone policy to downgrade until month 9! When I got really mad and asked to speak to the manager, he put me on hold AGAIN. When he came back, he said that he'd just read a staff email saying that a special "Vodafone Team" was dealing with all Mobile Connections cashback customers, and that they would contact me "In due time". Whatever that means.

So now, I'm still lumbered paying the contract, waiting desperately for this crack Vodafone team to get in touch and "discuss the available options".

If anyone hears from this magical Vodafone team, (or if any of them are reading this) or manages to negotiate something with them, please let me know.

    Best wishes,

    dj

PS: welcome to MSE, sorry it's in such poor circumstances for you.

  • i wouldn't hold your breath waiting for Vodafone. When I first joined in March they were superb. More recenlty I had to wait two MONTHS just to speak with a manager and they were useless. I still don't actually believe the person I finally spoke with IS a manger either!

My sympathies; I almost got caught up with this one!
  • Hi everyone. I too got caught up in the greed of FREE phone and FREE line rental that I just knew couldn't be true, but these MPOTW people were good at faking sincerity! I got a Nokia N72 with 500 minutes and 250 texts, only to discover that the phone lines are dead, the website's duff etc. I cancelled my direct debit immediately and wrote a letter (yes, a letter!) to Vodaphone explaining the situation.

What happened next was pretty good, considering - someone called Simon rang me from Vodaphone and said that he was part of a team dealing with this, that I wasn't alone in being conned into a contract and that they were getting a case together against the company (or something like that). Long story short, he credited my account with that month's charges and cancelled the contract at the end of the month, so I lost just the first payment I'd made, something like £47 quid, and got to keep the phone.

MPOTW had been harvesting the agent's fees for all the contracts they'd signed up - and not just to Vodaphone, they were offering deals with all networks - and of course the 'bigger' the package, the more minutes, better phones and so on, the bigger their commission.

Of course, if everyone claims their cashback the economic model is unviable and it all falls apart, but then all they have to do is scarper with the money and we're all left with slightly old phones and hefty contracts, with a worthless cash-back 'deal'. My contract was with Vodaphone, not MPOTW.

I think Vodaphone did ok by me, all things considered. It's not their fault that I wanted a free phone from a disreputable company, but their solution does them credit in this case. I paid £47 quid for a phone I didn't really want and two months of phone calls and some texts. Could have been worse.
