  • Do you just have lots of online banking accounts set up? I currently have my current account, debt overpayment account, and emergency fund account, but it would be pretty cool to have a bills and food account too I think! Do you just transfer money out of them into your main account as the bills fly out?

Oh lord, this is going to make me look like a crazy person...

    With my employer I have:

Current account for wages and then anything left is my spending money for the month. I transfer money out from here as soon as I get paid.
    Main savings account
    Savings account for Fringe

    With Halifax I have:

Current account for food shopping. I pay for it all with my debit card.
Current account I've just always had and never closed. If I pay for anything on my credit card I transfer that amount to this account and then use it to pay my credit card off in full each month.
    Car savings
    Christmas savings
My savings account for any money I bank from my sealed pot

    With First Direct I have:

Current account I use for all my direct debits
    ISA

I also have an account with the post office that me and my friend pay £20 a month in to each and we use it through the year for days out and treats.

So that's four current accounts with three banks and seven savings accounts :o

I'm pretty sure it could be done in an easier fashion, but I just like the way it works for me. When you write it all down it looks bonkers though :rotfl:
  • Haha that actually sounds pretty cool! I think I might set up an extra bills account, and a standing order to put the amount that I need for my bills in there on the 1st of every month. Then when a bill goes out of my main account, transfer the amount that went out from the bills account into my current account, to cover it.

I have lots of accounts too moomin...

    Current Accounts:
BOS - used for some direct debits and earns me £5 per month
Halifax - I have 2 DDs set up to earn £5 per month
Nationwide - only used to get a £1000 free overdraft
First Direct - still being set up, but only opened to get the £100 incentive
Co-op - only opened to get a £100 incentive, but now closing as switching to First Direct
Santander - pretty much redundant, but it gives me free European Travel Insurance
RBS - I use this for my miscellaneous budget.

On payday, I shuffle £1000 between them all so that they have had the minimum credit required. Takes less than 5 minutes and earns me all of the above :)

    Savings accounts:
RBS - where I keep my spare money
2nd RBS - where I transfer money to when I've used my Amex card. It sits there til the bill's due
Halifax - where I transfer money when I've used my Halifax credit card. The money sits there til the bill's due.
Santander - where I keep special money (like birthday money) that I want to keep separate.

Wow, 7 current accounts and 4 savings accounts - I also feel there's probably an easier way, but I'm working the system and it works for me :)

It's too much work to list all my accounts so let's just say I have 2 current accounts, 2 cardcash accounts that I use for day to day spending (haha, they only have money in them once a week - tax credits and CSA) and 13 savings accounts. I use 12 of them. Just haven't got round to closing the other one.

Your SOA is looking good. Totally under control. :)

    Morning all!

A lot of money things to witter on about this morning :D

    Credit card balance: £226.52
    Payment made: £203.10
    Difference: £23.42

Not a clue where the difference has come from so I'm waiting to check my transactions once they all go through.

Got paid from my second job today - £37.92 in to the savings account.

As things stand, the money situation is:

Current account: £140 (BAD MOOO!) I spent a fair bit this weekend on a night out, and bought some clothes for my holiday. Oops. Thankfully I return to the UK the day before I get paid again :o

Food: £78.54 (£30 left of my budget if I'm working from the 1st of February, which isn't bad as it's the 25th today!)
    Savings: £1697.84 :D
Car fund: £324.14 We got the insurance renewal through and it's £249, so I'm going to spend some time this week looking for better quotes!

    Nectar points are 3361/£16.81 :D

    Car insurance done!

Changed to Direct Line for £228 per year, reducing our excess to £150 and, if it tracks and validates ok, I'll get £52.50 cashback from TCB :D

Netflix accounts for £5.99 of that, figured that out when I checked out my email! I need to find another £17.43 and then it's back to zero :D
  • Wow, I feel completely and utterly underdressed in the bank account department! :rotfl:
