Diary of a spendy cow

Options
Hello :D

I've been lurking around these boards for manys a year now, and this is my umpteenth diary since joining. I've been full of debt (just under £10,000 at its peak) and am for all intents and purposes debt-free at the moment. I have a credit card with just under £200 on it as an outstanding balance but it's interest free and will be cleared by Christmas.

As those who know me well can testify to, I have a bit of a habit of getting all spendy and just vanishing. I need to be a bit more accountable to myself so that I can keep on building up my savings. I got made redundant last year and still have a reasonable chunk of that money left but don't want my spendy ways to interfere with having actual savings for the first time!

I have a few things to focus on with my frugality:

  • I want to go back to uni next year as a mature student, which means I will have to be frugal like a fox now to save money in advance. I'll then have to be VERY disciplined if I do end up as a student again.
  • A holiday! I know this doesn't really go with the frugality thing, but my brother has offered to pay for a flight to go and visit him (he works abroad) so I'll need to pay for a passport and spending money, probably £500-£700 all-in. That's my next savings goal.
So, how am I doing financially? Well, not too bad. I have a decent chunk of money in my ISA which I'm not going to be touching until I potentially return to education, so I'm ignoring it for the purposes of MSE. More financial jiggery-pokery to follow in my next post :D

Feel free to wander in and say hello, be you an old friend or one I haven't met yet.

    Money things:

    Credit card balance: £158.75

    General savings: £750
    Christmas savings: £316
    Car savings: £230

My general savings account is for my potential holiday and for other items that might crop up like house repairs, decorating and whatnot.

Well, it's payday tomorrow so there will be plenty of budgeteering.

Something that only 20 people a year get accepted for, so I don't want to say in case I jinx it or get accepted and am therefore really easy to identify ;)

I'll tell you if you come and meet us all for coffee in a couple of weeks!

  • Hello again, you spendy cow, you! :D :rotfl:

Well, it is nice to have you back. Now you have started a new diary, I may have to do the same. Or at least write in the old one.

And university? I want to know what you want to study as well, but I won't for the reasons you gave. Very best of luck, though! :T

I look forward to participating in and expanding upon the talking rubbish that will start in a bit.

Good to have you back! :T
