The point is this is a money saving Forum so where do we draw the line. Have I missed something and this has become a chatroom or a room where we all gather to gossip about some tragedy that happened to a poor family in Castlerock which has resulted in legal action. What is there to discuss? Let the courts decide and let us stop raking up the past.

Do we now talk about the Northern Ireland football team? Or the weather? Or what was on telly last night? Or those brides who trash their wedding dresses (at least we could discuss if it is a waste of money or not). Or what about the Christmas tree that went up in October?

If we fill this Forum with idle chit chat genuine users will switch off and those with real money saving tips, or those who need money saving help and advice will have nowhere to turn to.

Just to clarify, I wasn't suggesting banning ALL non-money-saving threads from this board, as some of them can actually be useful.

I just think that recently we've had a thread started for almost every news story, or political story, or whatever. There are plenty of other places on the Net to discuss those kinds of things.

I don't think either of you are being reasonable. The fact that many people join in with non-moneysaving threads shows they are popular. I've also given you two suggestions already however to separate the issues for you, here they are again:

    1. Ask site management to include a separate forum for non-moneysaving matters the way the GB forum has.

    2. Start a thread with a poll to see if non-moneysaving items are popular enough to retain.

Until you do that all you are just voices in the wind and you're coming across as thrawn or killjoys. I'm respecting your opinions by replying with sensible suggestions but I'm certainly not going to let you inhibit my enjoyment on this forum. It's up to others to post how they feel, or not. Nobody posting here owns the forum and as long as we keep on using it within the rules and guidelines then our wee chats will continue and I will keep on posting news and interest items.

    Could I be any clearer?
  • Looking at the first number of pages on this forum the only inappropriate/pointless thread I could find was on the "Clangers," however people voted with their feet here and avoided it.

It's nice to get a NI flavour, the England, Wales and Scotland threads are dead and our topics in the general discussion area but be of no interest to a mainly English audience.

GlynD you started the poll, you asked the question, and now a few people have gave a difference of opinion its getting your back up, as your now calling them unreasonable

You clearly like the non moneysaving chat as it's notable that you start alot of them, however it does put people off the NI forum as due to our local problems it always boils down to bad feeling and disagreements.

I personally have no issue with the non moneysaving threads, however there is a place for them in the arms. It's already been catered for therefore I dont see the point in having a seperate NI non moneysaving place.

Oh the irony of commenting on a non moneysaving thread

The Arms audience will not welcome NI non money saving threads.

You've got me wrong. My back isn't up at all. The reason I commented along those lines was because I had already suggested in post #3 that D.A. should start the poll or ask MSE for an alternative forum. Neither he nor Rockman opted to do so but continued to complain on the thread taking it well off topic, despite being asked not to. I felt that was unreasonable and still do.

If all those two were going to do was complain I thought I should start the poll as I'm probably the most active in starting non-moneysaving threads just now.

I'm not b1tching at anyone. I try to be reasonable at all times and apologise when I fail to achieve that. I certainly don't want to argue with anyone and think it's best to let the poll do the talking.

Och they're not too bad. I post there regularly. The problem in my opinion is that our board isn't that busy and our posts get lost in such a busy forum as the Arms. I like to click on the Northern Ireland forum in the mornings and see a few posts with some good witticisms. It's not something I'm good at myself but some posters here have a great turn of phrase - as is normal with Ulster folk :D

If nobody else is posting discussion material I do, just to try and liven the place up. Hence the news items. I did the Clangers one as well with great hopes for a laugh but I'm afraid that went down like a lead balloon. :o

I notice this week that some outsiders are dropping in to comment on some of our threads too which I think is great.

We love polls in Northern Ireland. I am polled out to be honest and am not going to engage in another one as the outcome is irrelevant to me

Look to be honest with you I don't care what is posted in the Forum. I just find it strange that people use a money saving Forum to discuss topical issues of the day.

If it was a Forum about IT issues would we use it for general chit chat? Or would we ask for comments about gay blood donors in a holiday Forum?

People have a right to stick whatever they want on a Forum and if their interpretation of money saving extends to general issues of the day then so be it.
