Should we continue to post non moneysaving items in this forum?

I've changed the title of this thread and the opening post because several NI members feel that we shouldn't post non-moneysaving items in this forum. It is suggested that we no longer post or accept news items or general interest items about Northern Ireland - just money saving tips from now on.

Personally I disagree so I've opened a wee interest poll to see what results we get.

NOTE: The poll is multiple choice so you can vote for as many options as you wish.

What shoul;d be posted on the Northern Ireland Forum? 146 votes

We really are kinda going over the top with non-moneysaving threads now to be honest. A certain number of them is fine, but do we really need a thread for virtually every NI news story?

I see from the first page of the NI forum that 5 out of 20 items are news stories. That's 25%. I don't see that as being over the top. Plus everything which is on the first page is most definitely about Northern Ireland. There isn't an item about every news story in NI.

Maybe you should suggest to the admin staff that the NI forum is now active enough to contain two options, one for moneysaving and the other for non-moneysaving?

From my perspective I'm glad to see the NI forum as busy as it is. For the last few years it's been as about as exciting as a wake. I've really been enjoying some of the many thought provoking discussions which are going on just now.

I agree that this Forum should be exclusively for money saving ideas and topic related to Northern Ireland. I am sure there are lots of other Forums for discussing topical news items.

Then start a thread and do a poll to see how many others agree with you.

It doesn't really matter, MSE is a commercial entity. They want traffic. If us talking guff along with all the money saving stuff gets them hits, that's the way it will stay. Guff and money saving.

Of course if you're so conscious about doing things by the book maybe I should point out that you have taken this thread off-topic.

I just can't see how this topic can be justified as 'money saving'. Is this a chat room to chat about anything and everything relating to N Ireland or a website to advise people on money saving ideas? Is this the virtual arm of the Nolan Show discussing topical issues of the day?

Personally I think that the site loses its true meaning if we end up discussing TV presenters, the use of the word 'wee', court cases, the first minister loosing his marbles, gay blood donors etc etc. Whilst interesting what has any of that got to do with real money saving tips and idea and helping those who find money tight? They probably have more pressing things on their mind than court cases in Londonderry.
