I know it's not a lot of help on this occasion, but for anyone new to petty cash, the system we use at work is that if anyone needs cash in advance because we don't know how much it will cost, we write your name and the amount given on a Petty Cash voucher and put it in the tin. When you come back with the change and the receipt, the receipt is stapled to the voucher and the change put back in the tin.
If you fail to come back with the change and receipt, we know who you are ...We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I'm not denying I'm in the wrong! But as I keep saying, it wasn't malicious, devious or intentional. It was a stupid split second decision that I will regret forever. We’ve had to remove your signature. A petty out was done for £30 then the change was paid back in with both the receipts, which means mine was one of those receipts. So that is like an IOU. And I told him I would pay it back, he told me not to bother and I said I'm not like that, I'd never use company money to pay my post. I said those exact words.
Except he is now suffering from selective memory.0 -
Monty you should not be castigated on this thread for whatever you have done and some ppl ought to be thoroughly ashamed of themselves on here the way they have been so pious and blameworthy to you. Please take no notice they are making you feel worse instead of helping you. Worst case scenario they will sack you but actually I think they would be doing you a favour you need to look after yourself you are not well my dear .Good luck whatever happens .xXx-Sukysue-xXx0

this is standard and then you rip up the iou in exchange for the change and receipts
We find it easier to staple the receipts to a voucher, because then they're all a consistent size and they all have standard information on: date, name, purpose. If we left people to just put the receipts back in, we'd sometimes have no clue what they'd spent the money on!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thank you. No one needs to tell me I'm in the wrong, I know I am. Sometimes it's easier to deal wit by talking about it and thrashing it out.
Although I was wrong, in my mind, I don't deserve to be sacked given the mitigating circumstances. But if they want to see it on face value and get rid of a hard working dedicated manager over this then I don't want to work for them anyway.
My fear is losing my home. I'm three months into a first time new mortgage. I finally though I had my life on track, after my accident and finally being able to walk again.0 -

The till then in effect was down and should not really have been an IOU at all.
Put it to the disciplinary that the deputy told you 'not to bother'We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Good luck Monty and don't beat yourself up any more, You sound like you need a break and a bit of luck.0

I would only rip up the IOU if it was a 'real' IOU, ie someone took money out and didn't spend any of it after all, or actually borrowed from petty cash (but you have to get permission from a manager to do that!)

You do not run a petty cash by letting any old tom !!!!!! or harry put the receipts back in the tin. It should be run by 2 people max and the correct way is issue and IOU for the cash taken and then when receipts come back the change and receipts add up to the iou and you tear it up.
On the petty cash slip you write the amount spent per item and what it was for attaching the receipts to the slip. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Monty you are running away with yourself thinking you may lose your house. You don't know anything yet and it's all getting bigger and bigger in your mind. Now listen to me it was £10 fgs not the crown jewels! You will be disciplined of course but you may be just getting a little ahead of yourself you need to calm down now and try to look after yourself you sound really worried and unwell now try to be a little kind to yourself and take it easy ,ok? Have a nice bath and a cuppa tea and go to bed is there anyone else you can speak to in RL that would be so much more appropriate for you especially the state you are in . I hope you are ok my dear.xXx-Sukysue-xXx0
