so your manager has told you it's gross misconduct before the disciplinary has been heard? pretty sure they're not allowed to do that and the disciplinary is to decide what happens. Your manager sounds like he's had a word with the deputy and already decided the outcome.

That's how I feel the invite to disciplinary doesn't even say for ALLEGED fraudulent claim of petty cash,it says you are invited to a disciplinary for failing to follow petty cash procedure and falsely claiming petty cash.

What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

I've been very ill today. I've barely eaten since last Friday and today I went light headed and fell down the stairs.

I've made an appointment at the gp for Friday.

I have asked to postpone the meeting tomorrow as I want a copy of the handbook and my contract.
I had to ring the people manager and I ended up breaking down on the phone crying. She was sympathetic but didn't say too much. She was concerned for my health and has asked me to ring her on Friday after the doctor.

I will fight this, however I've decided that whatever the outcome, I don't want to go back working there. I've had the toughest 12 months dealing with crap in that store, it's a long commute and very long hours. Im the lowest paid manager on the area and have the smallest payroll budget so the Only one doing crazy hours. Something has to give.

I'm not a liar and I will tell the truth. I was fully aware it was petty cash, however so was he. It was an accidents didn't have my purse with me and had I not been so exhausted I wouldn't have been so forgetful. I also stand by that as a manager and a deputy, you should look out for each other, when he made a mistake a few weeks ago that he could have been dismissed for, simply spoke to him about it to make him aware and not let it happen again. Because i could see it wasn't his fault.

I need to digest it all but ultimately I'm going to find a new job, and try nd put the whole mess behind me.

Come on guys the OP is doing what's best for her, she's already taken responsibility for her actions. Let's remember there are people that are honest in this world.

I for one applaud the OP for not trying to pass the buck of blame on someone that's clearly happy to see the back of her.

  • I think some people on this thread have been rude.

Some of the people on this thread should practice withholding their opinion, and try not judging the OP for their situation.

Question: Would you say the same if it was a member of your family in this situation?

No, well... have a little compassion then.

Sorry for another clarification but did you actually give him £30 from petty cash to cover all post costs including yours?

    Thank you.

This has been the hardest few days of my life.
I thought I had a job for life, I could sit here all day telling you how much I've done to change that store. I've replaced the entire management team as some of them I caught stealing large sums, poor performance, bulling etc. I've faced up to prolific shop lifters, been to court over them, issued banning orders, worked days off, and so much more. I love my job and I love the store but I do not love the excessive hours or the sharks I work with.

Regardless of anyone opinion, I know I'm good at my job. And I am very honest. That's why I've made myself ill over it all because I know it's an irreversible stupid mistake. I feel like I've let myself down in the worst possible way.

I really am the lowest I've ever been.

Sort of yes. I gave him £30, I could have gone upstairs right there and then to get a further £10 but I was very very busy. In my mind as long as the physical £10 was paid back in it didn't matter which physical note paid for the postage until it was all back in the till.

For example say I gave him £20 from the till and £10 from my own and he used the £20 note to pay for both, does this also mean works money was used for my post because it was the physical one from the till?
I fully excepted him to return, me to get however much mine was from my purse and pay it all into the till that way.

I told him I couldn't pay it there and then because I didn't have my purse, what else could I have done? There was no way round it.

It's very unusual for me to not have my purse ESP as I live so far away. I was just so tired that morning I left it on the side in the kitchen.
If that happened to any of my employees I'd have said no problem and got them to pay it back next day. After all we are only human and sometimes, things do happen.

I have had to dismiss people who are very good at their job as they did things that were regarded by the company as gross misconduct.

I have also gone through disciplinary procedures and found no case to answer.

Other times a verbal or written warning has been issued.

Each case is different and should be treated on the evidence alone.

I guess what it boils down to is if the disciplining manager takes it on face value or is prepared to consider the circumstances.

Not "sort of", you did give him £30 of petty cash and ask him to post something of yours.

That will most likely be the starting point of the investigation.

From there you will be asked why you went against company policy and why you did not pay back the money.

The assertion being that you stole from the company.

Those would be two strikes against you and those are the accusations that you need to have answers for.

As I said in a previous post stating that the non repayment was an oversight owing to your workload and asking for leniency would be a good way to approach that.

As the person who deals with the petty cash can you come up with a credible answer as to why you used company money for personal use?
