Judging by this thread a Miel washer, would be the best long term investment and probably give the best results. Could anyone recomend the cheapest place to buy a Miel washer with a 10 year warranty?

We've had our Haier washing machine over 7 years and cost £300 including 5 year warranty and has had fairly heavy usage but it has never really washed very well and every load always needs an extra spin and is even worse now and leeks water/soap on full loads.

I would get a Miele quote from your local independent supplier. Miele like to support them, and you will often find they give you a good price & excellent service.

We had a Hotpoint washing machine for 14 years it was still working when we replaced it, it had never broken down we only replaced it when replacing kitchen, probably would still be going now.

The age of a washing machine is irrelevant, what matters is the no. of wash cycles. So a one year old machine used daily will be as worn as a seven year old machine used weekly. The problem with modern 'budget' machines is that they are designed to a limited no. of cycles (some as few as 500, reputedly), then the bearings fail and repair requires a complete new tub unit, which is usually not economic. So such a machine might last ten tears if used weekly, but only a year and a half if used daily.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

37 years and 3 Hotpoints. This one is two years old. Used every other day.
Looked after. Seal and inside dried each time and door left open slightly.

As an ex Hotpoint service engineer, I'm loving all these long lived Hotpoint stories!

In my day the drums & bearings were exactly the same in cheaper & dearer models, just the controls & motors changed. But Macman did say "modern" & I have no experience of "modern".;)
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • I've gone for a Miele @ £650 with £75 cash back on redemption and 5 year warranty from JL so not a bad deal.
