How many years should be the life of a Washing Machine

It is a Bosch Exxcel 8 (WAQ28461GB) and cost £549 when we bought it in 2012.0

We had a zanussi that must have lasted around 10 years, when that finally broke and couldn't be fixed it was replaced with another one which is about 3 years old now, still going fine but I don't think it washes anywhere near as well as the old one. I think with electric items in the mid range you should generally get at least 6 years out of them without any major breakdowns but sometimes you're just unlucky much like with cars.0

But that's just it- it's not acceptable to have the attitude of "it's just unlucky". That means it's acceptable for a manufacturer to produce some products to be sub-standard and you were just "unlucky" to get one of those. No manufacturer can produce perfect, fault free products 100% of the time but they have a legal responsibility to put right any products which do not fulfill a minimum quality standard. (Lasting a reasonable amount of time in this case)0

Thats our Hoover Dynamic getting replaced now, failed a couple of days ago.
2 1/2 years its lasted, I suspect its one of the suspension legs thats away.0 -

Of course!
But in this case I can't imagine how we have damaged the control boards....
My first thought with a door lock failure was that it was legit wear and tear. I didn't even think to call JL/Bosch. It was when I realised it was the control boards (and how expensive they are) that I figured this could not have been caused by customer error. I did not open up the box and damage them manually or push the machine to operate outside the operating conditions (is this even possible?) so it remains that they were faulty to begin with. It's probably a faulty relay or something which costs a few pence but necessitates hundreds of pounds in replacement electronics.0 -
Sorry Doc, didn't mean you in particular but you'd be amazed what people manage to do.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

We had a Bosch dishwasher some years ago and were never really happy with it. It wasn't awful, just somehow never did the job quite as well, had little things go wrong - easily put right - the kind of thing you can't "claim" anything for, but leaves a bad taste.
I was very glad when we had to leave it behind!
By contrast, Our Miele washing machine lasted 10 years, doing what I estimated was 20 years of work (large family, sports team stuff etc.). So I replaced it with another Miele, still going very strong after 12 years of more normal wear, haven't had any problems.0 -
Judging by this thread a Miel washer, would be the best long term investment and probably give the best results. Could anyone recomend the cheapest place to buy a Miel washer with a 10 year warranty?
We've had our Haier washing machine over 7 years and cost £300 including 5 year warranty and has had fairly heavy usage but it has never really washed very well and every load always needs an extra spin and is even worse now and leeks water/soap on full loads.0 -
What about Neff? Are they just Bosch with a fancier name on the front, or is there a difference? We bought a place last year with built-in Neff appliances, including a washing machine. Seems to be working fine and washes well, but not sure what to expect in terms of longevity.
In terms of repairs, in the past I've had good experiences with http://www.repairandprotect.co.uk/ - if it's beyond economic repair you don't pay anything; if they can fix it you pay a flat fee which includes a year's warranty on the whole appliance.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0
