  • our Hoover Washing machine had to be replaced after 3 years 4 months we purchased from Currys who wanted a ridiculous sum for an extended warranty. We took a gamble and lost!!. Like many other reviewers on the recommendation of of our small local white goods store (part of the Euronics Group) purchased just over 2 years ago a Bosch machine which has a 2 year warranty and they threw in an extra year as part of the deal So far it has not been needed but it the warranty has given us additional peace of mind.

I had a Philips Whirlpool washer dryer that lasted an impressive 13.5 years. It was replaced with a Zanussi, which lasted just a couple of months past it's 3rd birthday & hadn't had heavy use, perhaps 2 washes per week.

That machine has been replaced with a Neff integrated one now I'm in a new home, & which is only used perhaps 2 or 3 times per fortnight now I'm on my own, so am hoping it will give me a long life.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

As a single person , I paid £220 for a Zannusi approx 1987 ! ( it was a basic model , very pricey then .) Then as a couple, it went on to last us over 20 years, it was still working but not so well. Bought a newer version about 4-5 yrsa ago, but misses on the spin, often, and recently I find its making small holes in stuff.
My Zannusi fridge freezer also lasted 20 years.

Our Indesit lasted 4 Years before the motor burnt out. I say 4 lightly as it did break down after 3 Years but I managed to fix the problem (trip switch for heating element).

We now have a new Indesit which we bought two weeks ago. Fingers crossed on it lasting at least 4 Years.

I've had Candy, Whirlpool and currently have a Zanussi. I expect them to last between 5 - 7 years and they do. I use my machine a lot; daily and sometimes twice a day.

I buy the cheapest I can find that does the shortest wash (1hour or under).

Wat no votes for Beko, according to "Which" are one of the most reliable.

Our Miele with its 10 year parts & labour guarantee seemed like a no brainer.

It does about 5 or 6 washes a week

It's 12 now. Both Miele and ourselves appear to be winners.

I will say no more! ;)

    This!

We are in year 11 now and have had the engineer out twice. He used a computer diagnostic thingy and at the time my machine had done just under 10,000 hours of service!

    Just what I was thinking.
1st Beko was a 5kg loader very basic cost £185 in 2004 and it gave up the ghost in 2012. It was used almost every day, so did many washes, during its life.
I now have a 9kg Beko bought via Tesco for £249 and it is a year old now. So far so good.
I would not touch most of the other makes mentioned on this thread. Especially Hotpoint, but most of them are now made by the same company, so not much difference in them anyway.
Oh and if your washing machine is moving on a high spin speed you need to adjust the feet underneath, so that it is level and you should not put too many heavy clothing items in the same load as that causes unbalancing. Leave a min of 20 minutes between each load as this allows machine to cool down and prolongs life of bearings etc.
  • We had an independent engineer to check our faullty Zanussi washing machine which was under 3 years old. He identifired the fault as the Circuit board and said the cost involved made it not worth repairing. This was his third case of that problem with a relatively new Zanussi washing machine in the past month. His recommendation was to avoid the Electrolux group (Electolux and Zanussi) and the One Group ( Indesit and Hotpoint). He also suggested to purchase any other brand that offers at leasst a 2 years parts and labour warranty.
