Earlier in the thread someone asked if threads on here will be posted on Twitter as Tweets. I'm not sure if that question was answered?
Just playing devils advocate here, I think people's concerns about possibly being identified on Twitter are valid, especially given the way a lot of people behave on Twitter! Yes people can leave this forum NOW, but what about the stuff that's been posted already?
Having said that, the risk of being identified is only going to apply to those who've been stupid enough to use one ID on here for years AND been drip-dripping various snippets of information about themselves over that time. There's one or two users I can think of who would not be difficult to trace, should somebody want to.
As regards leaving MSE, personally I think I'm going to do that anyway, tbh. Without waffling on too muchI've had 'one or two' concerns about the way it's run for some time now.

I took the point to be that the email that we get sent weekly can be accessed by millions of people and already links to content posted on this forum.
Which would suggest that this forum isnt as private as some people think it is.
Why would anyone think the forum is private, when the world and its dog can read any and all of the posts on it?.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

A PC doesn't have an IP address so that's not going to happen. Stop worrying.
Actually, I'm not that bothered about this whole thing. There is nothing I post here that I wouldn't say to someone and I've never thought of what I post as "private". I just wanted to make a point about IP addresses.Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?

Why would anyone think the forum is private, when the world and its dog can read any and all of the posts on it?
Of course its not private, but there's a world of difference between MSE forums and Twitter. Twitter is huge, revolutions have been organised on Twitter, some tweets become global news, people have been prosecuted over things they've written.
I understand that I give MSE ownership of what I write, but if they then post it to Twitter, I assume Twitter then has a similar level of ownership and control despite me not being a member and never having given permission for that. Can MSE make that decision on our behalf?0 -

And I would wager that most people here do not use the same name on here as on twitter and facebook either... One reason is that I would not want people I know recognising me on here, but also I don't want people on HERE to try and track me down on twitter and facebook etc.
I guess if someone has an account on here with the name Jane-Z, and that is their name on twitter then yes, they could be linked, but surely they should have/would have known that there's a possibility of being tracked down and the two accounts linked anyway, without MSE having a twitter community account?
Why join a site (like MSE) in order to discuss personal and sensitive issues (like financial or relationship issues) and use the name you use on facebook and/or twitter, if you don't want people you know to see your posts on here? That would be foolish, and is more than likely to result in people seeing you, even if this MSE community account 'didn't' exist on twitter.
MSE is a massively popular site, widely advertised, and millions of people look at it, so as I mentioned, people are very naive if they think that what they post on here remains on here only. As I said, I have googled certain issues many times and a thread from 'this' forum has come up. Also, as I said, do they think that people who they know, may never ever come on this site?
Upshot is, people are making a massive fuss about this, but IF they have used the same name on twitter and facebook as they do here, they are no more vulnerable now with the new MSE twitter community than they were before. As I said, people will only see the posts and threads from here, if they are interested in MSE anyway, as only people 'following' the MSE community account will see the posts and 'they' will most likely be people who come here.
I am not trying to be funny or anything, but I do think people are fretting and worrying too much about this.
Exactly what he/she said! :T ^^^^^“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
