I presume what they're looking to do is tweet stuff like "jon our forum chat about XYZ" or "Need help with ABC? Here's some advice from our community" and include links to the relevant thread.
I doubt they'll tweet "New Bride has just posted about XXX" because anonymous usernames mean nothing and won't therefore pull in views and posters.Got married September 2013!!!0 -

Yes, but surely nobody actually believed that....:rotfl:Tiddlywinks wrote: »Well, so much for that invitation... MSE Andrea has been online here all day yet obviously doesn't see this as an important issue.
Poor, very poor!
Not surprising. She seems happy to e-mail people telling us what we can and cannot do. But e-mail her with a valid point and she never, ever replies.0 -

You say that but I can think of quite a few perfectly innocent comments and ideas that could attract quite the number of hits, albeit for oh so wrong reasons, when the words "New Bride has posted about" are added in front of them.
XXX isn't one of them, but really, think about it.0 -
The concern is that if a person has a Twitter account / Facebook account under their own name and an account on MSE under a pseudenym, could they be linked therefore identifying the person ?
Some people may post certain things under their own name, and only be comfortable posting other details anonymously.
eg. if you log onto your Twitter account under your real name, will all your posts under "Soleil lune" also show up or somehow be linked ?
The official answer will probably be "no", however I am not too sure - as soon as somebody has made a post on a website, Twitter, Facebook or whatever then that comment exists and can be linked to an IP adress (which can then be linked to other posts etc.).
The answer in reality is also 'no'.
Unless you link your accounts, or one company buys the other and links them for you. That's not going to happen. That is exactly the point I am trying to make.
I guess that you use the same PC (and therefore same IP adress) to log onto MSE, Twitter, Facebook etc. ?
Have you noticed how your PC can "customise" itself in relation to other websites that you have previously visited ?
What if you log onto Twitter one day and it automatically links to your MSE account ?
A PC doesn't have an IP address so that's not going to happen. Stop worrying. That doesn't actually make sense - to own a copyright grants you certain rights - and this violates those rights.???????
It makes perfect sense. You get to post on their forum and I return you grant them the rights to anything and everything you post. It's a very simple contract.
As you've said - you're leaving so that's your option. You're not forced to post here.0 -

But isn't that the point?
If you publish something publicly then you run that risk- regardless of where you publish it.0 -

7. Your content
7.1 Just so that you know, you own any copyright in the text that you post to our forums. However, when you post text, you expressly grant us a perpetual, unlimited free licence to republish that text on our site and to redistribute/make available and/or sell that text in print or electronic form anywhere in the world as part of an edited compilation or otherwise. We may automatically track certain contextual links in your forum posts, whether through Skimlinks or through our own technology. See our Skimlinks & affiliated links factsheet for more details.
However, a users MSE forum name isn't text posted by a user as post text. Therefor putting a MSE users forum name on Twitter may violate the MSE T&C.
Compo anyone?
Of course it is - how do you think it got on MSE's servers? You created it, you own the copyright but you've given them a licence to publish it anywhere else.
These aren't draconian terms and conditions - you can get out of the contract by leaving the website, you're not forced to post.
Also there's nothing stopping anyone reading this to out any of our usernames wherever they want, perfectly legally.0 -
But - I don't want you following me back! !!!!!! - Stalking is against the law!
Following someone on Twitter is stalking?:rotfl:This is the end of MSE as we know it. I knew when Martin sold it off changes would come. and here they come - we are now being touted as a 'social media site'! affiliated to Twitter .............(oh the shame).
It's an Internet forum - it's always been social media. I don't think you understand what 'affiliated' actually means.Ahem. I'm on Twitter and I'm neither self obsessed or a moron.
Having said that, although I follow Martin Lewis' tweets, I won't be following the forum Twitter. I had a look at it and I really don't see the point in having a forum Twitter feed.
I agree. It seems like a desperate attempt at creating viral content by an intern who wants to make their mark on a company that doesn't understand how it works.0 -

I'm not on Twitter, don't plan to join, and certainly wouldn't want to publicly link my account here to one in my real name!
Is the stuff I write here going to be posted elsewhere?
So don't.This is worrying - I post on here knowing that the world and his wife can lurk or join in - But, Twitter is another matter! does this mean all those Twits get to see our posts too?
I post assuming that this forum is open only to those who find MSE. I have reservations about it being on Twitter too. whose Bright Idea was that?
So the world is one thing but Twitter is another? Why?
They're on Twitter to promote the website but I've got news for you - people can post your threads on Twitter all they want already so this is nothing new.I don't like this - MSE Andrea blithely comes down and announces we are on Twitter - but doesn't give any facts! doesn't say how this impacts MSE! in fact, doesn't say anything about how this affects MSE!
ARROGANT or what? I think MSE posters need more than this - because right now I am thinking - 'There are other Forum Sites out there'.
She's told us that there's a Twitter account - that would be the only fact you need to know.
It's not 'ARROGANT' to not share with you every little detail. We're all free to leave at any time. You're not beholden to MSE and they don't have any obligation to do what you want.
But you're right - there are other forums for you to use.0 -
I was worried cos Andrea mentioned a couple of threads on here - Buttergate for example - if Buttergates OP gave permission then that's fine - but I do have a feeling that MSE own the threads..............and can use them as they wish. in which case, I think I will be finding another forum.
That is exactly the case so it looks like you'll be leaving. Unless of course the above was all bluster?0 -

Who owns forum posts?
But no implied transfer or vaugness here as MSE explicity state that copyright remains with the MSE user.
Copyright does remain with the user but the very action of creating that copyrighted content on MSE gives MSE the right to use it as they wish. It's not that difficult and it's standard.0
