I did understand , but I question when posts are made that are clearly based on hearsay.

All the things you say are heresay can and do happen every single day up & down the UK many times a day. All were saying is these are the things that can happen which is why a retailer will have a policy in place to prevent these situations from happening.

Your train of though it not fact though, it's not how it happens.

They can't tell from the 'exchange' receipt (that not all stores do anyway) how the original item was paid for, they'll often take your word for it that it was cash as there is no trail as to how the original sale was paid for.

Prime example, I bought clothing from sainsbury's using nectar points, it didn't fit, so I exchanged it for the smaller size, but then I decided I didn't like it so I took it back for a refund and got cash because there was no trail by that time to the original payment method.

They don't need to know how it was paid for, the fact they don't know is why they won't repeatedly give you cash.

I notice moneysaving king removed this thanks from the post I quoted he'd thanked..

I haven't altered any thanks that I made yesterday since when I originally posted around 10AM. There may have been some corrected if I pressed it by mistake but nothing has been altered or removed.

My point exactly. Retailers have a policy in place where they don't give out cash willy nilly on exchange receipts, so someone claiming to do this all the time is at best .. A dreamer..

Well what fence would repeatedly go to the same branch?

Take Next for example, do you know how many branches there are in and around London? You could go to a different branch every week, get a cash refund, and never have to visit the same branch for a year. You would NOT be seen as repeatedly getting cash refunds would you?

So, this was london, yes makes it easier, a bit convenient. I was going to offer up the next question as to how much time and effort a person( unless they were part of a large scale shoplifting gang) would manage to visit different stores with an exchange receipt and get cash back . It's also policy with store to offer to send a cheque to an address in this scenario.retailers do have policies. We can all offer up mythical watertight so called scenarios,

I've worked in retail and there's a thousand and one scams or variations of scams. Most (but not all) I could explain exactly how they work (and some are very clever) but it'd be complete stupidity to explain how it is done on a public forum.

To the OP- keep your receipts in future ;)
