As stated.... It was clothing..you probably wouldn't believe how often people come on here and say" you've obviously never worked in retail" , and then give lists of amazing things customers can do, but were simply talking about a simple clothing exchange situation.

Don't see how someone bringing back an empty box has anything to do with this.. As that isn't relevant here..

With respect, why would you shoplift an item then exchange it-you'd just shoplift the original item in the first place.

Usually it's because a case of an item has 'fallen of the back of the lorry' before even reaching the store and being security tagged, some are sold to acquaintances, some are taken back and exchanged for another item, a receipt is given for that item, that is then returned for a cash refund because no card is shown on the receipt.

I know someone who made a nice little bit on the side doing exactly this.

Steal item, take back for exchange and get a receipt. Take that receipt back to another store and get a full refund. Money for nothing!
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
    Now 20% cooler

Sometimes it's not simple, what if the requested size for exchange isn't there, the store could refund, they a shoplifter gets cash for the goods they knicked as another size isn't in stock.

Hollydays as stated, is't obvious you've never worked in retail!

Where have I suggested they be given a refund? You're making it up as you go along..

This only occasionally works if the staff are dim....and can't read
Moneysaving king you've thanked that post, it's obvious you've never worked in retail.

I must have missed the post where Peachyprice stated that the person that they know who steals goods is their friend.
Just because you know someone doesn't make them a friend.

I don't hang around with people like that-if I knew they were doing something illegal id report them, no problem.
