I was 27 when found out and 29 now :rotfl:. I was lucky to meet my husband early on (was engaged at 22!).

I have spent most of the day reading this thread! It has been very useful to read other peoples experiences. I can't really concentrate today as looking forward to the meeting with the consultant next week which is to sign the NHS referral form to go the local CCG . If funding is approved this is sent to the local private hospital which is a supplier!

On behalf of all of us regular posters who post so much rubbish - I apologize for that!

No it has been very good read ( I especially enjoyed your confessions...)!

I have a few IVF questions which I was hoping to ask (if not I can ask next week when sign funding form)

    1) Drugs - on NHS do I pay per injection or does on prescription cover the course (I am trying to update my excel budgets :j)

    2) How easy are the injections to do?

    3) Did they make you ill
  • Hi star02! From my (limited) experience you don't have to pay NHS prescription charge at all - and they courier all drugs for the cycle out to you at once. Not sure if all CCG's the same though.

Haven't got to injections yet but sure someone else will be along in a minute :)

Thank-you, that's interesting to know. I am sure I can ask about my CCG's policy.

Hi star . I'm in the middle of an NHS funded cycle.

I found injections straight forward and painless; I had to mix the medication beforehand (not too difficult as the instructions came with pictures) then inject into my belly. It took about 5-10 minutes and I started on one daily (evening) injection (menopur for ovarian stimulation) and then after 6 days had to take a second daily (morning) injection (cetrotide to prevent natural ovulation). I found the ovitrelle pen injection (trigger shot) the most difficult which is the opposite to most women.
I didn't have any side effects so fingers crossed for you.
The nurses at my clinic taught me how to mix & inject before my cycle started and gave me a sharps bin as used needles can't be thrown into a domestic bin. They also gave me medication as and when I needed it; I didn't receive all my drugs in one go. Haven't paid any NHS prescription charges yet...
The biscuit will only dare to be just a biscuit when it is with its true friend the potato. (Edward Monkton)

And with private - they charge you upfront, and then after, and then again to be sure, and then once more with feeling. Then you leave the clinic in shock.

But the injections are dead easy!

ETA: This isn't really true. My clinic have gone above and beyond and given me so much treatment without even mentioning money I have been amazed. I'm paying now, but all the prep appointments (and there have been many) seem to have been just part of the service.

And further to the run of rubbish things, my other sister in law (DH's brother's wife) announced today that she is pregnant. The day after Grandma passed away, what a weird time to do it. At least DH's brother told him before it was plastered all over facebook etc but still. Meh. I almost want to stop bothering to try. I might have an affair with James Martin, at least he could cook me dinner afterwards.

Code, can you add me to the list of dates etc please when you have a chance? First FS appointment 28 November & DH urology appointment 29 November thanks :)

Tea my OH has the same blindness, except his is for cat sick/hairballs. Disgusting. I have a proper phobia of them and refuse to clean them (although I'm happy to scoop up poo/scrub the litter tray etc) but he would leave them lying for ages if I didn't nag. We should lock them up together in a room full of cat offerings and see how long it took them before they felt the need to clean up.
