I made it to the clinic this morning (thank you Dad for driving me to London) and had the scan & blood test. Saw plenty of follicles and my blood test was normal so no change to my current dose of Menopur.
The clinic sent me an invoice for our current cycle despite us being NHS patients so I need to sort out that tomorrow morning. Slightly frustrating & confusing.

Went to Dr's today. Finally. Was made to feel like a t*t - again... explained that I have been off the pill since January 2011 and no baby or even pregnancy yet. Explained that I have used Clear Blue digital fertility test thingy this month and it came back with peaks/high fertility etc therefore I would guess I must be ovulating etc...

She basically went "hmm that is quite a long time to be trying with no success... well give it a few months more and then then see what we think about some blood tests. I was like "really....?!" It will be THREE years of trying in Jan 2014! How much longer do they bloo*y need?!??!! So I basically had to plead. She then agreed to do "day 21 bloods" this month... but said because i have shortish cycles (between 26-28 days but usually more like 26) to have blood test on Day 19.... does this sound right?? Day 19 for me will be this Wednesday - eeek thats soon!! lol!! Now i have to find some way of blagging time off work weds morning with a days notice
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?

Day 21 bloods are a bit misnamed tbh. They mean 7dpo bloods.

I hate it when doctors do that dismissive thing. When I first went to ask for help I got told to "just have sex on day 14", despite the fact that I usually don't "ov" until at least day 21. I went back a few months later and saw another GP who was much more helpful and since then we've discovered that I don't ov (day 21 bloods showed low progesterone) and DH doesn't have sperm. So going off and having sex on day 14 wouldn't have made any difference. Good for you for pushing it.

You should probably request that your OH have a SA done too, if he hasn't already.

Edit: Just checked my list and see you're 7dpo today. Wednesday will probably be ok.

Ugh, your GP sounds like a nightmare. Is another GP at your surgery that you could see instead? Some areas have fertility GPs who deal with all tests and treatment, and who should be far more empathetic and proactive. It might also be worth waving the NICE & HFEA guidelines at your GP to stir her into more action.

  • Thanks Code - thats really helpful :) She wee'd me off because although I have heard mention of day 21 bloods etc on here, she didnt know that and didnt actually explain what they are, what they're for etc. Hope that it'll be worth doing then if its a bit late on Weds...... :(

The one today is a locum - they nearly always are.... have never seen same GP twice! There is one who apparently is the "practice lead in female medicine" but i have never been able to get an appt with her despite telling the receptionist exactly why i want to see her.....

They're pretty rubbish at explaining them. The only reason I knew it was 7dpo really, was because of here. Mine explained it really badly and said count 7 days before the first day of your period. I asked him if I was supposed to build a time machine. :rotfl:

The day 21 progesterone tests are to check if you're ovulating. A progesterone level of 30 or over indicates you are ovulating. If you don't start your period within 6-8 days of the test, you might have to repeat it.
