Hi star - are you long or short protocol as that has a big impact on the cycle day you start on?

    Short (I think)

Hello all, sorry I haven't posted in a while, been trying to get my head around stuff.

Went to see FS today, who basically said there is nothing else they can do, I managed to get them to do one more blood to check if I'm ovulating and they offered me more Clomid, after that.. nothing.. No IVF, no nothing, apparently i'm to old for my trust to consider me for IVF (I turned 36 yesterday).

I know there is nothing you lovely ladies can do, I just needed to vent.

You may wish to highlight the age discrimination act that came in mast year as NHS is unable to discriminate on age now, therefore there needs to be a clinical reason for excluding an age group, as NICE guidelines does not cap at 35 then technically they can't have this as the cut off point. Most CCG have already removed the lower age limit on IVF from 30 for this reason - hence I got moved to top of list)!

Not that I don't think it's a good idea (I do) but I'm not sure that it's entirely comparable their removing the upper and lower limits. They *could* argue that the upper limit isn't to do with age per se, rather it's to do with decreasing success rate therefore they don't think it's viable to spend funds on IVF cycles with a lower success rate. If this were accepted, technically it's not age discrimination - it's a clinical decision. (Taken to a logical extreme you could argue that 70 year old women should be given IVF on the NHS and that seems a bit crazy). This argument doesn't exist for the lower age limit - your chances of succeeding only increase the younger you are so I'm not sure that it would be as straightforward arguing your case for a higher limit. Unfortunately.

Don't worry - it's happy blood! I am happy to see it, and happy that perhaps the last operation has been effective. I worked myself up to assume it wouldn't, telling myself to expect the IVF to be cancelled, but now it's here I realise how much it was stressing me out. Just got to manage my mental state from here on. I've already done some imagining of 'how I will tell people I'm pregnant', before mentally slapping myself on the head.

    That way lies madness.

Gosh I got a lot of drugs today. 2x1200 Menopur (should have been 4 but they ran out. getting the rest on Monday). 8 boxes of Centrotide, 1 Ovitrelle , 6 boxes of cyclogest. I needed two bags to carry it. I hid it all under my desk in work, and still nearly forgot to bring it with me! I'm grateful the NHS is paying this cycle. Best part of £1k there.

Agreed re 70 just seems unfair to say cut off is say 35 if NICE guidelines say a good "chance up to 40". Lots of CCGs are still deciding on what the higher age cut off should be.

Personally it's worked in my favour re lower age limit - it's madness to turn away a healthy 28 year old and say too young need to be 30 when the data shows the younger the age the more chance of success.

I'm short protocol and start scans and injections on cd2. There may be a bit of leeway at different clinics but generally short protocol gets going when af kicks off. I'm sure google can explain this better than I can lol.

Picklekin that is sh*te. Whereabouts are you? How do you stand regarding private treatment? Seems so unfair.

Berkshire... We can afford a couple of goes at IVF privately (based on it being about 5k?) but will really need a good think before going down that route as it could wipe us out.. We have been trying for 1.5 years now, so will wait at least another 6 months before considering that anyway.

I read about someone suing Berkshire Trust but can't seem to ever find out what the result of that was..

Arggh. DH just got his initial appointment for his sperm retrieval consultation, opened it and saw that its in 2 weeks time and said "I think I'll phone and reschedule it. I don't want my new boss to think I'm taking the pi ss."

Goes to find brick wall to hit head off.
