12-24 weeks pregnant (part2)

Sorry for multiple posts! I just read back and saw a question from Bumblebee about place of birth.
It is totally your choice where you birth. Your options should include any one of your local hospitals (not just the one closest to you), a midwife-led unit which may be at a hospital or standalone elsewhere, and your own home.
Being higher risk does not preclude any of these options - it is entirely up to you although they may push you towards one if they would prefer, for example, for you to be in hospital but it is still YOUR choice and they can't stop you from whatever you choose.
I had a home birth with my DD, and plan to have another one despite being considered high risk now. They won't like it but it's not their choice
You usually give a preference early on but you can change your mind at any point. So have a think, look into your options and make your own decision based on what you want and your own consideration of your level of risk. I recommend doing research into risks if you have a condition, and find your local home birth group too to get information.
Hope that helps a bit x:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

With your travel insurance question I think every travel insurance company will have different policies, so you won't be able to get an answer on here I shouldn't think - you'll probably have to do a quick ringaround of a few companies and ask them what their policy is. Though if you're only 28 weeks I think unless anything goes wrong you should be ok to fly - I think they only start to worry at about 34 weeks ish.
It sounds like you're a worrier - like me! I spent most of the early weeks worrying constantly! If you saw your doctor yesterday and they reassured you that everything was fine with baby, and you're due to see your midwife in 2 weeks time (and mine let me listen to the heartbeat at my 16 week appointment), I would just hold off for two weeks and try not to overthink anything (easier said than done, I know) having said that if you can afford a private scan then go for it. We chose not to, but then because I'm high risk I've had 5 scans so far and I'm only 24 weeks, so there wasn't any need to pay for extra scans. I did have some agonising 2-3 week waits between scans/appointments though, so I know how you feel, you just have to try and give yourself a bit of a talking to, and switch off a bit - take it one day at a time, I found that helped my anxiety levels a lot.
Hugs!!! Oh and as for the movement you felt, I didn't feel anything until about 21 weeks ish, so I would say 14 weeks is probably too early to feel anything, but I'm sure others will come on and offer you their experiences also!!
I'm high risk tooI've had four scans so far. I have lost five babies in pregnancy so I can;t help worrying and six weeks is sooo long till the next scan.
I felt my DD at 19 weeks (also anterior placenta) so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that with a subsequent pregnancy I could feel movement now, it just feels rather coincidental IYSWIM?
I'm 14+2 today.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I saw the GP today to ask about flying later in pregnancy - we want to go in May but I'll be over 28 weeks, but apparently we have to book it and then hope I am passed as fit to fly later! Does anyone know if travel insurance will cover it if I am not then allowed to fly and we have to cancel?
Also, while I was there I asked her to listen for the baby. I tried at home yesterday but hear somwething at 156 beats but not sure if it was placenta. It sounded like a breathy "hoo, hoo" rather than a horse.
I have an anterior placenta and a retroverted uterus so she wasn't hopeful, and she found a "hoo, hoo" sound that she said was the placenta. Then she said that if the placenta was working then the baby had to alive.
Is that true?
I mean, with a missed miscarriage doesn't everything keep working? I'm quite anxious and wondering if we can find £70 for a private scan as I don;t see the MW till 16 weeks and obviously the next scan isn;t till 20 weeks which is a long time away yet.
THanks for any help you can give me. Will try and have a read back now but need to fit a nap in before school pickup.
Hi skint just popping on here because we had to cancel our holiday due to my morning sickness and our insurance paid out. We used Columbus if thats any help.
In our travel insurance there was a list of conditions related to pregnancy that were included - it said hyperemesis gravidarum - which I wasnt properly classified as having - just 'extreme morning sickness' I think the fact I managed to avoid going into hospital by the skin of my neck meant the dr didnt/wouldnt write that down however he just filled out one of their forms to say I wasnt medically fit to fly due to extreme vomiting and that I was on medication for it. And they accepted it, got all our money back minus the excess. I just had to send them the emails of the hotel booking, and the email I got emailed from BA when I cancelled our flights a few days before, and BA refunded us the tax. So basically you need to show you didnt show up to board the flight.
After 28 weeks you will need a drs note to fly (whether the airline asks to look at it is another matter, I mean it would depend if they could even tell you were pregnant/what the check in person is feeling on the day etc) so if something happened and you were medically unfit to fly then I cant see why it would make a difference if it was over the 28 weeks or not.
I would just go online get some quotes and then read the small print. I checked mine before I purchased it to see what it covers.
With the missed miscarriage thing, I once read something about the cord can continue to make swishing noises 3 days or something after a babys heart beat stopping, not sure if thats same thing as hearing placenta or not though. So sorry thats not much help as doesnt really mean much at all. Plus I only read it on a message board not sure if its actually true. It seems a bit odd to me.
I guess you have a couple of options - go for the private scan (we went to this private clinic near the RBH who were very professional although it did cost £100) or if you are anxious and you have another 2/3 weeks to see your midwife, ask her if you can see her in 1 week just to see if she can listen to the heart beat.
When I got measured at my 28 week appt the midwife was a bit worried about it, but was going to leave it as technically the measurement was ok, but it panicked me so I just asked her to squeeze me in for 5 minutes the following week literally to just measure me and she was totally happy to do that.
So perhaps just ask if you can have a 5 minute appt?0 -
Skinty sorry I don't know the answers to your questions, but in my green booklet there's a number for the Senior Midwife Team or something like that on one of the pages, so if you have any concerns then it says to ring that number. Maybe there's one in your booklet?
Cllola I hope you're feeling better now. Thank goodness a midwife was behind you.
Mysecretalias I tend to find that most commuters are to busy playing with their phones and iPads to even notice if anybody is pregnant or disabled. I was lucky that one woman did notice and was kind enough to offer me her seat. The train companies should do more to highlight pregnant and disabled seating, some do have areas some don't. I wouldn't be too comfortable asking somebody to give their seat up but if there was a priority area for those less able to stand I would ask the people in those seats.
Good luck for your scan sunshine
Neverdespairgirl I'm glad there are advantages likes cases finishing early. Let's hope you get a few of those! I'd imagine being a barrister is quite stressful in itself!
Hugs to all those feeling poorly still. I've come into work despite still not feeling great. I'm so busy at work that it helps in some ways as I forget I'm in pain for a little while whilst I'm concentrating. I'm just seeing how I feel from one day to the next. I don't want to overdo things and make myself worse but also I don't want to let my colleagues down with unplanned absences too often.0 -

Hello all!
What a day! We got there half an hour early and was seen straight away, the sonographer seemed a bit grumpy (but maybe that's just because I am comparing to the one at the 12 week one who was just amazingly friendly). She was silent for about 20 minutes doing all the measurements, then sent us for a walk telling us to return within 10 minutes. But then she kept us waiting another half hour before rescanning... baby still had not moved! She did another 10 minutes or so before saying we will have to come back, the measurements she did get were all 'fine' although didn't explain anything more than that, but still needed to look at the heart and placenta... so we have to go back on Valentines Day for another scan.
However, despite baby being rather lazy we did get the news that we are going to attempt to level out the numbers by being team blue! Although even that, she just said 'it looks like a boy' - now I know they can't say 'it's definitely a boy' she didn't smile or show me boy bits or anything on screen... in fact I never got to see the screen except for a quick look to confirm there were two arms two legs and a beating heart! OH got a better view from his chair, he apparently saw feet, face and all sorts! She even said 'I'd just leave pictures til next time it's not really clear today' which I didn't argue with... wish I had still got the one to mark the occasion.
But overall... happy times!0 -
Glad to hear all went well - and congratulations on your boy bump!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Congratulations on being team blue Sunshine, sorry the sonographer was a bit grumpy, hopefully you'll have a friendlier one at your re-scan.
Thanks for the tip on the 4head Moonbabe, I do already have one and found it works well for normal headaches but this one had teeth!0 -
