12-24 weeks pregnant (part2)

I was waddling off the tube on Friday night, feeling liked I'd been kicked in the buttocks, struggling to walk properly and having to take very small steps again, when I began to think 'maybe everyone in their second trimester doesn't have this'? So I googled my symptoms and something called Pelvic Girdle Pain came up. It apparently used to be called SPD too and it sounds horrid. Does anyone else have this or know anything about it?
I think I had PGP with DD1. Felt very stiff walking sometimes, and v painful to lift my hips up in bed to turn over. Had trouble sitting up on the flat beds after the scans!
Was very worried it might turn into full-blown SPD this time (not nice - you can end up in a wheelchair for the rest of your pregnancy), but so far it's not too bad. I'm only 18 weeks tho, so still someway to go.
I'm also at the stage of not really feeling pregnant! It's worrying me a little, but I'm sure it'll all be fine.Mortgage when started: £330,995

Just had a look on the Halfords website and the information is quite useful

Not sure if I want a base that stays in the car, that I can lift a car seat out of that fits into a buggy, or whether I want a car seat that just stays in the car and then have a separate buggy?
Better to take baby out or car seat out? How am I supposed to know this :rotfl:
It does look like its best to get a car seat that is Group 0+ to 1 and not Group 0 as then you'd be replacing it after 9 months!
So I guess this means also whatever car seat you get you need to make sure it fits into the travel system frame you want - which seems confusing.
Was much easier when I was a baby and my Mum just put me in a carry cot on the back seat :rotfl:
And Im thinking the buggy will need to live in my car boot or garage as our 'hallway' is about 1m square so there is no room for it there and we dont have a porch. I did ask DH maybe we should get a porch built! Apparently my Mum used to put me in there when I was having a tantrum so could come in handy in more than one way haha!0 -
I think the car seats that clip in are really convenient, but you normally need ISOFIX, and you can only use that if your car is relatively new (you need to see if there are two metal rings between the seat and backs of the back car seat). I think there may be a couple of clip-in bases that don't use ISOFIX, but I couldn't get them to fit in my car (I have a bit of an odd-shaped back seat!).
My car doesn't have ISOFIX, so we ended up with the seat-belt fixing car seat. We went on a 1/2 day course to learn all about car seats, and it was given by an elderly road-safety officer who said the belt-in seats are just as safe as the ISOFIX. It's just a matter of convenience.
The belt-in hardly takes any time at all once you get the hang of it. I used to take the whole carseat in/out when DD1 was small, then when she got heavier (and I couldn't easily lift her + seat), I would just take her in/out and leave the car seat.
Pushchair I mostly left folded up in the car boot unless it had got wet from raining, in which case we had to leave it in the (shared) porch until it dried out.Mortgage when started: £330,995

I am still trying to figure out where to leave the buggy in our house as we have a narrow hall and no dry outside place. I think I may have to get one of those long plastic runners to protect the carpet and put the buggy in the nursery which will be down stairs. That or constantly dismantle it and leave it in the boot of the car.
We are close to finishing the bathroom which means I will be able to get in and clear the nursery in time to get it painted and organised. Still need to sell the dining table and chairs. So much to do!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
I had those pains in my buttocks a few weeks ago but have been fine since.
I've gone through stages of everything aching and then feeling absolutely fine and not feeling pregnant at all.
At the moment I think I'm going through a stretchy pain phase.
I think the fibroid I have on the left hand side is giving me pain too..
I have very bad constipation!
This weekend was spent clearing out cupboards, I seem to have 3 cupboards in the kitchen just filled with old appliances that I will never use but for some reason can't seem to throw away or re-home!
I've pulled most things out and will ruthlessly go through them this week!
Also this week I plan to pull everything out the wardrobe and hopefully free up some space there too.
Hubby is away until 27th but I have a friend staying with her one year old on Sunday and Monday so want to get the organising done by the time she comes.
I definitely look pregnant now! I'm thinking of painting my belly like a pumpkin for halloween but the idea will probably just stay in my head!0 -
Thanks Jox. I know I have ISO fix as my car is only a year old, I presumed the clip in base things were so that you don't have to fiddle with a seat belt in the rain? Yes I'm that lazy..
Or are they also for people who don't have ISO fix or do they themselves need ISO fix?

Morning all,
Not even looked at buggies yet, but useful advise from you ladies as per usual!
Anyone bought/can recommend a big pillow?! I've been looking at the Comfort U pillows on ebay, but not sure I can justify the cost!
Although it will be worth it if I manage to get better nights sleep. Up at 4am this morning and struggling to get comfy again.
I'm feeling more pg this week, and struggled with dressing for work this morning! Think Ill be wearing the same 3/4 dresses on rotation for the next few months as nothing else fits! I'm currently wearing a mis-matched too tight skirt and jumper combo, that looks like I got dressed in the dark!
Going to a wedding in December and tried on a few dresses at the weekend but no luck. There was a gorgeous non maternity dress in coast sale that would have been perfect if the wedding was this coming weekend! Just don't think it had 6 weeks worth of growth in it for me!Mini me due March 2014

I find that's the worst thing right now, sjlou, you can't really plan clothes in advance because you don't know how big you'll be!
We've moved our furniture around and my wardrobe is now in our bedroom which is a problem as I get up and go to work before OH wakes up so I have to pick my outfit the night before and leave it in the bathroom to get dressed. It's not a problem if I pick a maternity dress but my non-maternity wear is a gamble as one day I know it'll stop fitting and I'm going to be rummaging around for something else in the dark as OH grumbles at me!
We're definitely going to a Winter Ball in december so I have to search back for all the links you all gave me!Think I'm definitely going to have to buy a maternity dress rather than a normal dress with a bit of room!

I have a bugaboo cameleon
. We were between the quinny buzz and the cameleon in the end. We looked at the Oyster quite a bit too when we bought ours for the first baby (now almost 2).
The main things for us was something that could be forward and rear facing and one that we could put the car seat onto (so helpful when they're still small and it's a quick stop). The quinny at the time also wouldn't sit up to 90 degrees so we knew we'd have to change it when the baby wanted to be properly sitting up. The new models might have changed though.
I also have a britax with the isofix clips built into the car seat and this stays in grandma's car, not need for a separate base. I bought this second hand for half the price as it's only used a few times a month.
It's also worth mentioning the difference between the easy fix and the family fix bases. The easy fix only fits the baby car seat (up to 1 year), the family fix can be used to 4 years, so when you buy a pearl car seat for example when they're a year, you won't need to buy a new base if you buy the family one. The easy base one is cheaper though and tghen gives you a complete choice on what brand etc to buy when the reach about a year. Did that make sense? lol :rotfl:
sjlou - I never bought a maternity pillow, but I did pop a regular pillow between my knees at different stages of pregnancy. It eased the discomfort in my pelvis and back and really really helped me break the habit of sleeping on my back - saved me spending any cash and worked a treatMight be worth a try before spending any money

Yes, that's exactly what the clip-in base things are for. If they'd worked in my car, I would have been that lazy too :rotfl:
Most of the clip-in bases require ISOFIX. I think I found one or two that didn't.
But you don't need to worry about that, since you have ISOFIX. You can just pick the one you want and try it out.Mortgage when started: £330,995
