Lara44 and cllola the thing is my NHS is absolutely dismal (Croydon) they offer pretty much no antenatal support whatsoever. All you get is a 1 day parenting class, and trying to book yourself onto that class is more difficult than anything I've ever encountered. You try to phone to book (which you can only do during certain weeks of your pregnancy) and no-one answers. So you send the form off instead, to find yourself sat there for weeks wondering if they ever received it, and when you phone the hospital generally to try and get somewhere they tell you that the lady who does the bookings only works like 2 hours a week on a Wednesday and you must 'sit and wait for her call during that time period'
It's absolutely ridiculous, and the feedback from the class itself is not good. So I don't think we really have any other choice but to go with NCT. I don't really know anyone (apart from my best friend) who has had a baby, so I do want to build up a network of other pregnant mummy to be's.
cllola I looked on my scan notes - nothing! All it noted was where they wrote that all the organs etc were marked as NORMAL. It didn't have anything else on the print out sheet. Maybe I will ask at my next appointment with the doc - but that's not until 10th Feb now!
You think £10 is expensive for yoga classes, the ones I'm currently doing are £69 for a term (which is 6 classes!) - I couldn't find any others in my area though! Our first baby due 25th May 2014 :T

Lol your antenatal service seems to be run by the same people as my doctors surgery! You can only ring on the day you want the appointment and only between 8:30 and 9am and if you're at the end of the queue then there are no appointments left!
I would defo look at netmums if you havent already, the 'local to you' section gives you info about all sorts of things pregnancy and baby related in your area.

I'm paying £70 for a term of yoga classes but that is 11 weeks. we get outside speakers and get to watch cheesy 80's videos about how to 'breathe out your baby', she also makes aromatherapy massage oil personally tailored to whatever aches and pains we might have so i think it is well worth it.0 -
Oh no, that's really annoying Alias and Cllola! We're doing the one-day course, I hope it's not too bad. Yes, £10 is the cheap 'off-peak' class
Yours sounds lovely Cllola.

I know we say it all the time, but the difference in what you get in areas is madness. One day parenting class? I'm sure they try and force people to pay for NCT to save themselves a job.
AFM, I saw my midwife this morning, she's so lovely. She said it was too early to book antenatal classes and will do it at 25 weeks, which is supposed to be when I see her next. She also was really nice when I said I had felt really teary these past 2 weeks and stressed out, and has booked an extra appointment with her at 21 weeks.
She then got me straight into a GP who gave me a 2 week sick note to try and give myself some head space, and will try and chase the CBT referral up that took place about 3 months ago. She seemed really keen to get me to start fluoxetine, which I took myself off the day I thought I might be pregnant, but I really don't think it's worth it (it takes forever to take effect anyway) and just think the CBT people need to get their butts in gear lol
Now slobbing out in front of the TV, not feeling the love for housework today!

Sunshine81 - its lovely to hear about such a supportive midwife and GP. Hope you start to feel better soon.0

aw sunshine - that sounds like you have a lovely midwife. especially with the two weeks off - do you think that'll help you feel a bit less stressed out? it's not the same but I was feeling very stressed, crying a lot and getting angry easily last week for about 4 days, I had 4 days off work doing absolutely nothing and I feel so much better now.
cos we are in similar areas do you know what antenatal classes we get? although I know it might be different! I'm going to ask the midwife when I go tomorrow morning0 -
Mary - thanks, yes I am feeling much more relaxed, far less worried, and am starting to enjoy it again.
I even surprised myself (& husband!) & bought a simple baby bouncer! It's second hand, but looks brand new, and it collapses so will be great when visiting people etc. it's kiddicare.com brand, and has such cute ladybirds & leaves on it
Sunshine - I'm so glad your dr and midwife are being supportive. I'm on fluoxetine and am glad of it, it only took a couple of days to start working, but took longer to fully work. I appreciate everyone is different though, and I do want to come off it a long time before birth. Take this 2 weeks and see how you feel x
I had to cancel my 16 week midwife appointment, and can't get one till 18weeks... mrsT, this was the same for you wasn't it? Was it ok to wait? Please forgive the badly spelt alias... I am a long time contributor who needed to reclaim anonymity for health/job related posts.0 -
We're going to book the NCT classes as the NHS ones in our area are just drop in sessions and you can only go to two. I'm also worried everyone else will be much younger at the NHS classes. I'm hoping to make up for it by not doing any specific pregnancy exercise classes and continuing to work out on my own for as long as possible. I'm still running, but not very far or fast, and I'm managing a couple of gym sessions and still doing my regular dance class, I've just reined in the intensity a bit.
Sorry you're having a tough time sunshine but glad you're getting support from your midwife and doctor.
Nice to see you're much happier and relaxed Robots
AFM, I feel mahoosive. I'm sure I'm as big as my sister and she's 25 weeks, but then she's always been the petite one and I've always been the "big" one. She's on her second though so I'd hoped not to catch her up quite so quick! I'll see if I can upload my bump pic from last night..

Just to say my hospital only does the 1 day class too, and so we booked NCT. Yes its expensive but we had our first class this week and really enjoyed it and looking forward to next weeks. I think I will feel a lot more confident after it in terms of the birth stuff.
I think the hospital one covers the birth but I got the impression it was more about caring for the baby afterwards which isnt the bit Im most worried about as have had lots of experience around babies.
My nct course also has one session specifically on breast feeding, which I am looking forward to, and also the teacher made time for the guys to ask their own questions etc and they came up with some stuff us women hadnt even considered and was interesting to see what was on their minds!
Wangdoodle I also booked nct for that reason too. Im only 30 but felt like the nct classes would have more women similar to me and who also live in the immediate area compared to the hospital one.0 -
Ooh Ive just seen this post... Relevant for those if us expecting summer / late summer babies.
