Happy New Year Ladies! - 2014, the year we meet our babies
Congratulations Vickyviks! Lovely news.
Mrs T_M - you have got a lovely little bump! Think you have more of a bump than me and Im nearly 19 weeks! I just look fat (imo).
My friend has given me some maternity clothes - so wore some underbump straight leg jeans type thing out last night. I need the extra space but the elastic kind of goes over my bump rather than under it!!! I was comfortable though..
Mysecretalias - looking forward to your post saying you have felt movement! Wont be long....
I was sitting in the pub last night (a little bored!) - basically watching out for movements as my entertainment.
Only a week to my scan...am starting to dwell on it. Not finding out the sex - somebody said to us last night (we have x2 DDs already) "What are you going to do if its a girl?" Hm...let me think?! As long as its healthy I don't care at all!!! Really think its a strange thing to ask (along with the "is it planned?" question)0 -
Happy New Year ladies!
You're bump is very neat compared to mine Mrs_T_M and I'm only 12+5 but my bump is huge already! In my defense I never lost my bump from DS due to my muscles getting damaged so I've spent the last 3 years looking a few months pregnant, but my bump is defnitely growing again (even though I've lost 2.5kg since getting pregnant). It's interesting to see how other ladies bumps are progressing - one of my friends still wasn't showing at 18 weeks whereas I think I'll look like I'm due any day by then.
Sorry you're going through a difficult time robots - good luck whatever decision you take regarding the tests!
sophiasmum I get the 'was this one planned' question a lot, but that's probably because DS wasn't planned - although he was very much wanted as soon as we found out!
We're off to a friends house this afternoon for a New Years Day get together - we all used to have a houseparty together NYE but with most of us having children we celebrate during the day now - how times have changed! Looking forward to showing everyone our scan picture!
When did you all make your pregnancy announcements at work (if you have)? My line manager, HR and a colleague who's a close friend already know but I've been holding off telling everyone else until after the scan but now I'm in 2 minds as to whether I should wait a bit longer.0 -

I told my head of Chambers when I was 5 weeks' pregnant - but then, my head of chambers is also my Dad, so it was in the latter capacity rather than the former that I told him!
I also told my clerks pretty early on, so that they didn't fix important cases for late April or early May.
I've only told one lot of my solicitors, though, and that wasn't deliberate - OH told them as he was by chance doing a case for them. The others I won't tell until I have to....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Congratulations VickyVicks
Mrs TM your bump is cute. I have a little one coming but I am sure it looks to other people like a pot belly from Crimbo, lol.

Happy New Year everyone!
As husband and i weren't feeling up to partying we spent the early evening with a friend & her family... NYE is her birthday and she rarely has it 'all to herself' so it was nice for her to be the centre of attention. So we came home and watched the Hootanany and went to bed fairly early!
regarding telling people:
We had told only imediate family and a few friends before the 12 week scan. After the scan (as all looked well) we told a lot of family. But were waiting to see some friends in person over xmas/new year. So some of them we have now told, and others we haven't.... and some I SO WISH I'd told when i was unreservedly happy. And others I wish I hadn't told at all if I'm honest.
So I have no advice, but I am a cautious person by nature and I wish I'd thought of 'tell people after the scan Letter' instead of 'tell people after the scan'. And now I can't bring myself to tell either sets of parents that all might not be well. Please forgive the badly spelt alias... Hi all and happy new year! We are all having babies this year!!
Mrs tm that's a very tidy bump for 16 weeks, I'm very jealous, I still just look podgy unless I'm wearing anything 'over the bump' to smooth it out a bit.
On the subject of finding out the sex, I'm desperate to know because I'm just too impatient! DH and I have 3 boys between us from previous relationships. I have DS 4/5 days out of the week and we have DH's twin boys every weekend so there is usually a house full of boys most of the time! It would be lovely to join the flurry of girls but we will be happy with either. A boy would definitely be cheaper as we have 5 years worth of boy stuff!
We are having a lazy day today, DH went out to a friends house last night and I stayed in to look after the boys, he came home at 8:30 this morning having not slept but drank an awful lot so I'm reluctantly playing nurse!0 -
In regards to telling people we told immediate family as soon as we found out at 4 weeks. My feelings were that if anything dad happen I would have wanted them to be there for me and be aware of what was going on. We then told everyone else as soon as we had the 12 week scan. It was getting quite hard not to tell people at that point though because I was showing and a lot of people were beginning to guess!!
I was wondering what everyone's plans were in regards to visits from parents in the hospital. We have been thinking about this and have found we are a little bit torn. If there are complications and I am in hospital for a while then of course I am happy for people to come and see us. But if I have a complication free birth and am not in hospital for too long then we are not sure we want visits.
I think it's because A) we see this as our little bit of time to get to know our newest member of the family before anybody else comes alongI don't feel comfortable with DH parents (without going into any deep details the mother in law walked out of the wedding due to not liking not being centre of attention). We seem to have gone from only seeing them 2 to 3 times a year and not exchanging Christmas presents to once announcing the pregnancy to speaking weekly and getting £150 from them is gift cards and vouchers for Christmas!! I don't have any problem with having my parents at the hospital but just dont feel comfortable having DH parents around at that point when I'm really not going to be feeling my best. I should also add that I would never have one set of parents there and then not allow the other parents. I don't want to have any arguments.
I was wondering what other peoples plans were regarding this as I don't quite know what is usually expected. Do people usually visit you in the hospital even if you are only there for say one night? This is my first baby and I am not even sure how long is normal for a hospital stay. xx0 -
Hi Vickyviks - with DD1 I was induced and had her 3AM and DH sent home
(in a proper hospital). Was allowed visitors the next evening and I couldn't wait to show her off tbh and see my mum and dad! MIL visited as well...- went home the next day.
With DD2 I had her in a birth centre (much more relaxed) at 1PM - they told me I could go home straight away but no way was I giving up my private ensuite room and going home to my then toddler! My parents visited within a couple of hours of the birth and then my sister and MIL came down in the evening. I went home the next morning.
This time - I do intend to go to the birth centre again but unless its silly oclock, Ill go home the same day if all is ok.
Im close to my parents and wanted to see them with a couple of hours both times - but its a very individual decision
Depends where you are intending to have baby and the circumstances of the birth how long you are in - but in my experience the main hospital was very rigid with visiting hours etc while the birth centre allowed visiting whenever. We now have a new birth centre which even has double beds so DH can stay with me! Very different to my hospital experience. Hope this helps0 -
Samtoby congrats on your little girl, you must be so thrilled! :T
Robots I'm sorry to hear you feel this way, I know you're having a very tough time right now but please dont let this put a dampner on your pregnancy, people will happy for you that you're having a baby and even if there is a very small chance of downs it doesnt make your child any less of a person or any less worth celebrating their little life. You hold your bump with pride and love and you will both be fine whatever happens. Sending you big love and reassurance and remember, youre not "goimg to be" a mummy, you already are one, and a darn good one already from what everyone here can seekeep your head up chick xxx
