I can only take holiday I've accrued before my maternity leave starts so only have 4 days to play with. Then at the end I'l have 33 days owed to me. Bit annoyed as I wanted to use some of the holiday before starting mat leave, I know it'll be nice to have money at the end of the year (I'm not coming back to work) but I'd rather be able to take some of it upfront. Have to have a rethink of my plan now I think, but I really don't want to be still working at 38wks!0

You could start your mat leave early and tag the extra holiday days onto the end of the leave. The effect should be the same as using your annual leave before mat leave.Mortgage when started: £330,995

So, I've just double checked with HR as the policy was unclear about bank hols.
Yes I do accrue all holiday including bank hols. I can only use that which I've already accrued before I go on leave (Jan - March, so 5 days approx), leaving me with 27 left accrued up till the end of the year.
Plus then any I accrue from Jan to March if I take the full years mat leave.
So essentially if I take 12 months, Ill have 33 days to take when I return to work. Meaning I could then take 6.6 weeks holiday at the of my 12 months off, so 13.6 months off in total!
You should have seen my bosses face.... She was hoping I would use my accrued holiday for the last 6 weeks of my 12 months mat leave (so only actually taking 10.2 months mat leave), rather than adding it to the end.
Still might do, but its an option.Mini me due March 2014

Ha!
Does anyone know What happens with holiday if you're not going back to your job?0 -
They would calculate what you've accrued up to your departure date, however what happens then may depend on whether your still in the main maternity leave or the unpaid leave during your notice and their policies. Most likely is they'd pay you for them.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

I'm exactly the same Sijou, even down to having the same number of days. I'm not intending on coming back so they better pay me, surely they have to! Will be telling my boss I am coming back though to be on the safe side so looking forward to telling him about the 33 days holiday I'll have! He's the sort that would be happy for us all to have just two weeks off all year and never takes his allowance!0

I'm very glad I teach & don't have to worry about accrued holiday!! Sounds confusingFirst baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/140

So if you don't go back you only get the accrued holiday but if you do go back you get the full amount?
So if I left at the end of feb id accrue a few days so I'd probably just go on holiday 1 week before maternity leave then.0 -
Hi all :j
Well I am back from my parents house where we had a lovely tea. My brother turned up too, was lovely to see him. He advise he has already booked off the week I am due off work so I better not be late...:rotfl: !! I cant believe how excited he is, I only see him a few times a year, at my parents house, we are not close at all. He does adore his best friends kids so maybe he cant wait to be a proper uncle.
Our scan was lovely this afternoon, the baby was playing peak a boo....the scan lady (no idea what this job role is called) had to keep going back to check the face was all ok but every time it kept hiding with its arms/hand! So cute, it was also the same when it was time to take piccies! I am please to announce that we are TEAM BLUE......DH is very very happy, me too, I have seen so many nice baby boy things and we have a boys name already, no girls!
Also went round to my mums friend who said we can take some of their baby things, we are now home with a lovely cot bed, a back carrier thing to pop baby in and a walker. I didn't like the pram they had so politely declined - though we have already ordered our pram. Got most of the big things now, most we have spent is £20 on some chest of drawers. Many people are so kind and either give things away for free or sell extremely cheap. Need to start making a list of the bits I need to get, clothes, cot sheets, coat, bibs etc
Right off to browse the web for little boy fabric to make a playmat, pram blanket/quilt and a couple of toys
