Sorry you are so upset Mary. However you have created something wonderful with your partner - a new person! That little one will need your love whatever gender, and I hope you will feel differently soon.

  • Sorry to not-read and run, but I hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas - we had a great time, and I've not been touching computers, too much else going on.

We abandoned Isaac with his grandparents, aunts, great-uncles and uncle today, and went for the 20 week scan - 5.5 hours in the ante-natal department, and got told to come back in 10 days time, as the baby utterly refused to co-operate and have all its parts measured and assessed.

Still, importantly, the parts that they did measure were all fine and dandy, and we are expecting our second son. Like a typical male, it hid all the important bits but had its legs wide open so that was a clear result (-:

We got home as everyone else was starting dinner (good timing, walking in through the door and getting presented with a plate of grub). Isaac put a bit of a stop to the conversation when he said, "how do they know it is a boy? Did they see his penis?". Seemed a perfectly sensible question to me, but my Dad looked as if he didn't need more information, and everyone else was trying not to laugh (-:
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

Ndg you must be thrilled, congratulations! :j

I don't expect anyone to understand how I'm feeling, I'm happy for you all that you're happy with your babies. When oh wakes up we're going to talk a bit more about our options.
  • I just couldn't read and run whilst lurking from the next thread.nice to catch up on all the news and congratulations to all you have had good scans etc recently even if there is a few naughty babies about ;-)

Mary whilst we don't know all of the details about your circumstances I'm sure many can appreciate the differences between them and yourselves. That said I would urge you and your partner to go, together, to see your midwife and your gp. It is important that you go together, after discussing your feeling as openly as you can with each other. You are going through something which is obviously very emotional for you and many of us can appreciate your shock but I'm sure you too can appreciate the reactions of some of the thread participants. You are having such an extreme reaction to this news; adoption and other 'options' are rarely thought about past finding out the gender of a baby as expectant parents are frequently so overwhelmed, so please talk about this. Both with those close to you and 'the professionals'
It is saddening for me to hear you feel you have sacrificed your career for one of the greatest gifts you can both give and receive but, whilst I can not reassure you, I have never once believed that a woman loses her career (current or potential) when having a child. I am not attacking you with these comments I just hope that you can find the support you need to feel more positive and move forward with your pregnancy in a better place.

Maybe call the midwife and they might be able to help.

I can't see what options there are to be honest but I hope you find a resolution and a way forward.

Anyway......changing the subject completely the pram I like is in the sale- has anyone bought a pram yet? If not when do you plan to buy one? X

We got ours at 21 weeks but would probably have bought sooner if we hadn't been going to the baby show, where we got it heavily discounted! We started looking after our 12 week scan. What do you like?

  • We got our pram extremely early as it was such an amazing offer we couldn't afford to miss it. It's been in mil's loft ever since and every so often I forget we have it and stress that we missed out on such a good offer as if we saw it and left it!
We bought the Kiddicouture Willz travel system in the travel themed print; down from £400ish to about £100 (just under) - pushchair, carrycot, newborn car seat, footmuff and rain cover. It's an excellent system (from the go I had in store) with nice chunky wheels, a big shopping basket which zips closed and very easy to put up and down :) can't wait to get it out of the box and get it all set up so we can have a go at putting it in the car with bf's wheelchair etc. Good thing is it breaks down to the chasis and the carry cot/pushchair element so much easier to pack in the car

Mary - Just wanted to say that I hope you find the support that you need.

Like you, I already have a son so girls are a little foreign to me, but then boys were foreign before I had one. Lol. I'm expecting to learn along the way if it's a girl. Are there reasons that you didn't want a girl? Don't feel the need to reply if you don't want to :-)

  • iv not managed to find a pram I like yet! need to have a proper look though - iv only been to babies r us and I didn't like any there. it's hard looking online, id rather see it in front of me.

anybody who already has children, is there any point getting a gender neutral one so you can keep it for your next baby or is it likely to be worn out by then? my friend who has 3 insists she wanted a new pram for each one, to make it feel special, hehe.
