Christmas has been lovely but back to normal nowback to work. I couldn't get to sleep on Christmas Eve, half because I was excited and half because I kept thinking this time next year I'll have a baby (hopefully) sleeping at the side of me! so exciting
I started using it at 13 weeks and to be honest there were only three occasions in the first week I didn't hear it, but I did hear other weird noises so that reassured me something was happening in there! Ever since I've been lucky enough to find it each time, sometimes stronger than others, sometimes taking longer than others, and generally along the bikini line or just above xx
PS went sales shopping today, got a couple of dresses, a bump is DEFINITELY starting to show!!

Finding the heartbeat is something you need patience for as it takes a few times to find it quickly. I am 19+5 and it generally takes me a minute to find it but when we did it last night I couldn't keep up with baby, it kept moving so I lost it then found it again.
I recommend if you buy one you listen to your own heartbeat first. I took my pulse and got OH to put the monitor over my chest so I knew what it sounded like. In your groin you will be able to pick up your heart beat in the middle of your public line and then to the further left and right. Try and find those first. Running the monitor slowly across this area you may pick it up anyway. If not then go a little higher and a higher section again. You need to move it only a few mm at a time. Quite a few times I have picked up mine and babies at the same time so one over the other. When you move the monitor you need to wait a few seconds for the sound to bounce back to you because it works by waves of sound. The first time we tried to find it- it took 45 minutes. I was way to high up by my belly button and moving it way too fast. I did not purchase the ultra sound gel I used body lotion.
Don't panic if you can't find it quickly. Despite being used to doing it now some days I put the monitor right ontop and find it instantly. Others it takes me a while. You may hear a whooooshing noise - only way I can describe it. This is the blood flow going up and down the placenta or so Midwife said. I can also hear the baby moving sometimes, don't have the sound up too high it will blow your ears off!!!!!
I am glad I bought it but to be honest I can see the bad points of having one. I guess it's a decision only you can make.
One other thing is I can only pick it up led down and I have to empty bladder. I can't pick it up sat down or indeed stood up.
I got mine from Amazon but I am sure you can buy them in other places.
Hope this has been helpful x
What she said! Perfect concise answer ha! I have found a few times recently that I keep finding the heartbeat but then baby moves away. I think I have a right wriggler... I also keep picking up noises of the baby doing karate moves haha!0 -
Well I've had my scan. All was fine except the baby is a girl! I was desperately wanting another boy and when she said girl I burst into tears, the sonographer laughed and said it can be overwhelming but then I think she realised I was really upset and rubbed my arm.
We neeed to have another scan because the woman didnt get to check everything but i was so upset that we just left. I feel a bit better now but I'm not going to lie I really really wanted another boy. Hubby said we can go shopping in a bit so hopefully buying some girl bits might help it sink in a bit more.0 -
Oh bless you marywooyeah, I'll be totally honest and say I think that will probably happen with me too as I really want a girl! But the good health of the baby is the most important thing.
Hopefully a bit of shopping will make you feel better! Let hubby indulge you!! xxxx0 -
Oh marywooyeah....hope you are feeling a bit better now.
We want to find out on Monday if we can but I have not thought about how I will feel about knowing. It sounds totally bizarre I know after all I do want to know but expect a boy so if they tell me its a girl I think with my low blood pressure I might faint! My partner doesn't mind at all. He might secretly but he has told me as long as the baby is ok - he is happy to be a Dad to a boy or a girl.
Has your pregnancy been different this time marywooyeah? I know some say it is different if its a girl than if you had a boy the last time but then I have had people tell me that is rubbish.3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:

Hooray, back to work and normality today, getting up and out was hard work though
Thanks for all the info on dopplers samtoby, I wasn't going to get one, but hubby has been driving me demented touching, talking to and trying to listen to the bump (that sounds bad-if he wasn't bothering I would be annoyed!) So I ordered one this morning, I'm quite excited about it now0 -
Ahh bless you Marywoo! OH and I were really hoping for a girl and were disappointed at first when we saw that we're having a boy.
Going shopping for clothes and toys really helped though... we're now super excited about our little man and I'm sure that once you take some time to get your head around it you'll be happy about having a lovely little lady!

I'm really surprised at Mary's post and other people who've been upset at what sex their child turns out to be...surely if it's healthy that's what matters?! I can imagine being upset say if you had like...5 boys and had another baby and it was also a boy haha. I'm pretty open to what I get. id love a daughter but as long as theyre okay that's fine with me.
I think the fact I work with severely disabled children might influence this fact! and also my sister who has been trying for a baby for 6 years who'd be overjoyed with anything it seems sad to be upset about the sex. I must be weird ha.0
