Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas – this time next year we will have our babies
DS (20 months) was a bit overwhelmed and has taken 3 days to open his pressies as he played with each of them for ages as he opened them.
Still throwing up most days but hoping as the placenta takes over that it eases – not holding my breath though as with DS it was now that the HG started.
Marywooyeah – yes moved here about 4yrs ago – love the fact some of the big names play at the bowl as it is so close to home. I told hubbie I was going even if I was overdue as the bowl was nearer the hospital if I went into labourTwenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."Official DFW Nerd 1365

Good luck marywooyeah and Neverdespairgirl with scans today!!
AFM it's my birthday today, I'm getting old! 32!
Will be putting my feet up this morning while OH goes to an interview then we're going to my favourite Thai resturant later. Might use my doppler later, I love hearing him/her swishing about and the heart beating. It's the best £20 I ever spent! It's only taking a minute or so to find the heartbeat too now, a couple of weeks ago it could take me up to 20 mins. Sign of baby getting bigger I assume! Starting to show under the fat now lol!
Have a good day all!

Happy Birthday Sunshine - have a great day....32 is definitely not old!
Looking forward to your updates marywooyeah and Neverdespairgirl!0 -
sunshine you know when it took you 20 minutes to find the heartbeat the first time, how would you find it eventually by just keep moving around? would it not scare you at first? I want to get one but I'm also really wary of it making me more worried than I already am!
Christmas has been lovely but back to normal nowback to work. I couldn't get to sleep on Christmas Eve, half because I was excited and half because I kept thinking this time next year I'll have a baby (hopefully) sleeping at the side of me! so exciting

Happy birthday sunshine!!
Lurking for scan news! Still can't believe my scan is only a couple of weeks away! Really desperate for it to be over and done with now so I can 'properly' relax.
Glad to hear everyone had nice Christmases, ours was nice though it'll be nicer next year to have Christmas in our own house with just me, OH and baby
I got some really lovely gifts too, was half hoping OH would propose but he didn't, think he might be waiting until baby is bornI got some lovely perfumes, a baby bear charm for my pandora bracelet (bless OH he was a bit upset as he went to get me this limited edition pram charm and they were all sold out so he had to get the baby bear instead but it's beautiful)
We also got a few little bits for baby as well as a couple of nice bits for our house when we buy one so some lovely things.
Everyone else got drunk on Christmas Day and I was the sensible sober one with my non alcoholic beer
Don't now what we are going to do on New Years Eve yet. Has anyone made any plans for that night? I always find it a bit of an anti climax so think we will just stay home but it would be nice to go out as OH's parents will probably be staying in so it will be nice to have the evening to ourselves. Our first baby due 25th May 2014 :T

Would also be interested to hear thoughts on this. I have been thinking about getting one but nervous of this.
I think it's because it's now the run up to my next scan but my nerve levels have been going up slightly like the last couple of scans, and I'm also conscious that I'm 18 weeks and 5 days today and I've still not felt any movement by baby. I am just starting to worry again and I think if I could hear the heartbeat it might put my mind at rest but if I can't find it I might just panic.
How many weeks + days were others when they first felt movement? Is it normal to be 18+5 and not felt anything yet?Our first baby due 25th May 2014 :T

I couldn't find a heartbeat when I tried at home at 17 weeks - I had heard baby's heartbeat at the 16 week scan so I wasn't worried - as I know they are hard to find until after 20 weeks.
I first felt movement at 20 weeks exactly to the day - I never felt fluttering or light movements before then, I felt 6 sharp kicks all at once
Oh just want to add - I was lying in the bath on Christmas day (night) and was staring at my belly and I could actually see tiny movementsit was exciting!

Hello ladies, Havent been on here for a while as have been busy having a quiet and relaxing Christmas. I also haven't been able to eat lots of food all at once and as a result ended up eating Christmas dinner over a period of 6 hrs!! Definitely not normal for me lol.
Now feeling kicks a lot more frequently but still waiting for DH to be able to feel them. I don't think it will be too long a wait though as I'm pretty sure I felt the baby kick from the outside yesterday.
Cannot wait for my scan on the 31st. During my first trimester I was all about waiting for the birth to find out what we are having. Now I am slowly becoming really impatient. So now thinking I will definitely be finding out. Think we have narrowed down our boy and girls name to just a couple of choices for each. Really struggled with girls for a while. Boys I found really easy for some reason.
Hope everyone is having a lovely Christmas week xxx0 -
Finding the heartbeat is something you need patience for as it takes a few times to find it quickly. I am 19+5 and it generally takes me a minute to find it but when we did it last night I couldn't keep up with baby, it kept moving so I lost it then found it again.
I recommend if you buy one you listen to your own heartbeat first. I took my pulse and got OH to put the monitor over my chest so I knew what it sounded like. In your groin you will be able to pick up your heart beat in the middle of your public line and then to the further left and right. Try and find those first. Running the monitor slowly across this area you may pick it up anyway. If not then go a little higher and a higher section again. You need to move it only a few mm at a time. Quite a few times I have picked up mine and babies at the same time so one over the other. When you move the monitor you need to wait a few seconds for the sound to bounce back to you because it works by waves of sound. The first time we tried to find it- it took 45 minutes. I was way to high up by my belly button and moving it way too fast. I did not purchase the ultra sound gel I used body lotion.
Don't panic if you can't find it quickly. Despite being used to doing it now some days I put the monitor right ontop and find it instantly. Others it takes me a while. You may hear a whooooshing noise - only way I can describe it. This is the blood flow going up and down the placenta or so Midwife said. I can also hear the baby moving sometimes, don't have the sound up too high it will blow your ears off!!!!!
I am glad I bought it but to be honest I can see the bad points of having one. I guess it's a decision only you can make.
One other thing is I can only pick it up led down and I have to empty bladder. I can't pick it up sat down or indeed stood up.
I got mine from Amazon but I am sure you can buy them in other places.
Hope this has been helpful x3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:
