I also got in writing the details of accrued holiday pay for while I'm off (as that's almost an extra 6 weeks money) to make sure I don't lose anything by not going back.
Brilliant! Take it and run!0 -
Becs I've not heard of that before I'd get it checked.0

we are relatively worried about money but trying to plan sensibly at the moment. I earn substantially more than my DH and my work's maternity package is nowhere near as generous as a lot of you ladies (I can only dream of 6 months full pay! I get 6 weeks full pay, 12 weeks 1/2 pay and then statutory). This will make a massive difference to us and is the main reason I'm only planning on taking 6 months off (although I then get holiday leave added to that so in effect will get about 7 1/2 months). We are considering whether DH will take some of my remaining leave after that, but that will depend on money.
Our Maternity package here isn't even that good - it's the 'minimum we are legally obliged to give' in the chief exec's words so (following copy and pasted from gov.uk):
Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) is paid for up to 39 weeks. You get:
90% of your average weekly earnings (before tax) for the first 6 weeks
£136.78 or 90% of your average weekly earnings (whichever is lower) for the next 33 weeks
SMP is paid in the same way as your wages (eg monthly or weekly). Tax and National Insurance will be deducted.
Luckily work will still pay for the health insurance they are giving us from next Monday and the employer contribution to my pension. Think my plans work out at around 29/30 weeks.
We don't even accrue holiday pay but I will use my holiday allowances separate to my Mat leave.
There has always been a bonus paid to staff here at the end of the financial year; I didn't get it this year as I'd only been here 2/3months which is fair enough. Chief Exec has half hinted that it might not be organisation wide this next year but it's payable just before/around the time I go on leave so fingers crossed if it goes ahead I get it. Think it worked out at between 2 weeks and a months pay depending on who you are...************************************

Is the accruing holiday thing not a legal requirement? I thought it was. Although I'm confused about how to work it out.
Just had a quick search - you def build up holiday on mat leave I guess it's pro rata?

Kynthia explained it well before.0 -
thanks everyone, made an appointment with the docs for the moles next week.
my HR lady said it's a legal requirement that you accrue your full holiday entitlement PLUS bank hols whilst you're on maternity leave - definitely worth checking out.0 -

Whoever mentioned runny eggs and Camembert is now officially in my bad books....those are my two HUGE loves.....I miss them soooo much!!!
I may just be making this worse, and obviously you have to make the decision that's best for you in any case. However I've had the occasional runny egg and plenty of baked camembert through this pregnancy.
Baking or deep frying the camembert thoroughly (or any other mould ripened cheese like brie) gets rid of the nasties which are the only reason it's not recommended in pregnancy. Lots of the soft cheese in this country is pasteurised in any case and whilst this isn't enough to kill listeria in mould-ripened cheese, it's enough for lots of other varieties.
With eggs, I always make sure they're fresh, have been properly stored and have the lion mark. The risk with eggs is salmonella, and lion mark eggs are from hens that have been vaccinated against this. Testing has routinely failed to find any salmonella in lion marked eggs. More info here but obviously it's a personal choice.0 -
On hearing all you ladies maternity policies in work I guess I totally took mine for granted and that 6 months full pay is a really good one !!
It's not something I ever paid much attention to as our baby was unplanned so I hadn't even once glanced at the maternity procedures !!
Thanks all you giving advice on the heartburn, will try the refreshers and rennies, mw said I can take ranitidine, two a day... sometimes I still get it in between though so will try find a cure so to speak ! I find milk helps but when on the go it's not practical like refreshers would be !!
and lastly... anyone recommend anywhere for wooly maternity tights lol?0
