  • Claire16 - I would probably keep it (I say probably, I know I would). I doubt they even realise they have done it. Also something to consider...would you have to pay postage to return it??

Marywooyeah - I am having that nesting feeling. Re-organised the whole bathroom this week to make the toiletries and clean towels more organised and tidy looking. This weekend I am planning on clearing out the under stairs cupboard, painting it and putting shelving in to turn it into a pantry. I feel a huge need for organisation and neatness!!

I am really craving eggs but after having it drilled into me for so long that runny eggs are the evil incarnate I feel really nervous about them. Common sense says that the likely hood is that I would eat the egg and nothing would happen (apart from a craving finally being satisfied that is). I don't eat cheese so thats not an issue and I wasn't a big drinker before anyways. I do like the odd bit of pate but can cope with that. I do however love all types of seafood and do not like having to limit the amount of smoked mackerel etc I eat.

Also what is everyones take on prawns? There are lots of mixed messages about them as well.

Hi, I'm delurking from the other thread as they are all talking about sweeps, losing plugs and giving birth and that's all still way off next year for me. :-)

Con1888, I'm glad you've found out about the ranitidine. I was prescribed it for 2 months and I finished about 2 weeks about and trying to see how I cope without it. Considering the number of times I've been on omeprazole pre-pregnancy I'm not hopeful. Did the midwife say you could take over the counter stuff or any particular brand?

I'm a public sector worker too, so get the good 32 weeks of full pay before going unpaid. The unpaid still scares me though as we're part way through buying a house and taking on a new large mortgage, plus earn 50% more than hubbie. Therefore it's difficult to know what our outgoings will be, plus what a baby costs, plus what our childcare options and future work plans are. Hubbie thankfully gets three weeks paternity at full pay as he works public sector too. However I'm jealous of those that get bonuses, I'm also jealous of those who don't spend nearly £3k and 17 hours a week commuting. :-)

For those that worry, I think runny eggs are fine if they have the lion mark as they're salmonella safe really. Most people who get salmonella these days don't even get it from eggs, but from chicken or cross contamination onto other foods. I forgot the other day and was eating Christmas cake mixture before I remembered I shouldn't be eating it because of the raw eggs. Also cooked cheeses are fine, it's just uncooked soft cheeses that are a higher risk.

To those that were discussing the icandy, I was keen until I tried them in the shop. One was really heavy which put me off, then when I found one I liked I tried the hood and was shocked. Opening and closing the hood makes a really noisy clicking sound which would almost certainly wake or startle a baby, which is strange as I haven't found any other brand that does this. To be honest it's hard to decide as there's so many and they don't differ by THAT much really. Although we quite like the uppababy vista, but not the colours unfortunately. It's really great for tall people as the baby is sat higher and the bar across the back wheels is curved out of the way which is good if you have a long stride. Also it seems really well made, has a massive basket, folds okay and the carrycot can be a full time sleeping unit for the baby (no Moses basket needed). However the Silvercross Wayfarer is beautiful. :rotfl:

Marywoohyeah, I've heard that feeling first movement is usually between 18 and 20 weeks for first timers and can be much earlier for subsequent pregnancies.

Vickyvics, I've heard raw seafood should be avoided but prawns are cooked so I would have thought they were fine. I miss pate the most when in restaurants as it was one of my favourite starters.

AFM, I've grown massively in the last week! Loads of people at work have commented and now I fear I will be massive by the end. I now think I look more than my 26+2 when I looked less obvious for ages.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

Wow this thread has moved loads in the past few days! I'm still ill so not really got a great deal of attention span. Am on day 6 of flu now and very bored of coughing and feeling sorry for myself. Went to work for a meeting this afternoon and came home straight after because it was still too much.

Bright side - the small person has been having a proper wriggle tonight so OH finally got to feel him move (21 + 5) as I've got anterior placenta I'm feeling him move more over past week than before which is reassuring.

On the subject of pushchairs / travel systems I've been reading reviews for the first time this evening. A combination of small apartment in town centre plus no car means I'm tempted by something like the Petite Star Bubble - I've yet to venture past the maternity clothing sections yet in baby shops and look at anything in 'real life'. Has anyone seen one? :)
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.
  • Mothercare have 20% off every department, including existing offers, for the next few days - not sure when this started but it offers some great savings. I had popped on to see if the dress I wanted for Christmas is still available (it appears not - boo!) But now I've seen a few things we're after with some great prices.
The tommee tipper closer to nature full feeding set rrp £140 is £70 in there but on the offer it works out at about £56!

Gutted about the dress though, going to o to the branch opposite work on. My lunch and see if they have it in store. If not I have no idea what I want :-( I like to make an effort at Christmas

  • Morning! Have been reading, but not writing - find it difficult on my phone and just seem so busy at the mo.

Marywooyeah - I felt movement at 17 weeks on my 2nd pregnancy so is possible you are feeling it?
Midwife phoned me yesterday about my exzema - apparently the consultant asked if I was taking oral steroids (Im not) - so they are fine with it and Im back to just seeing her 7th Jan though she says now should be a straight forward pregnancy.
So Ive got consultant 7th Jan and the letter says I will have a scan and then I have my 20 week scan 8th Jan!
Ive still not told anybody....family & work....I like just me and DH knowing! & I know as soon as I tell my daughters that they will be so excited everyone will know within 5 mins! Im wondering how far I can go now.....
  • I'm 25 weeks tomorrow so I've just realised I've outstayed my welcome on here for a few days!!! I'm off to the big thread now, eeek!! Good luck to everyone who's got scans coming up and I'll see you all on the other board soon xxxx
  • Just a quick question,

Is anyone still having their hair highlighted while pregnant?

Id like to get mine done before Christmas but not sure if I can?

Thanks ladies I might keep it then - Vics I wondered that too, I certainly wouldn't be paying the postage if they wanted it back! I was leaning towards keeping it but just checking I'm not an awful person :)

Mary woo I felt movement at 17 weeks so 16 sounds definitely possible.

Last night I had a tiny red & brown bit of discharge & again small brown bit this morning, just going to monitor it and then decide if to do anything. So fed up of these scares.

Runny eggs I've had a couple, I figure as long as they've got the red lion mark it should be ok. I don't think I've touched anything else I'm not supposed to!

OT question - if you ordered something off a department store website & it cost about £10 and they accidentally packed 2 in the parcel, (and it was something you could give someone as a nice Xmas present) would you tell them or keep it?!

If it was from a big company i'd keep it, I would think twice if it was a smaller company :)
Your saying department store... then yep it would be kept lol

just lurking from the less than 12 weeks pregnant thread to say I asked the midwife this in my booking appointment! I don't just have highlights I have a full head colour so I was worried. she said there's no problem, she said hair dyes aren't what they used to be and it's perfectly safe. but Iv decided to wait til after 12 weeks anyway :)
