Morning ladies. My day off today but heartburn has me awake ! Are we allowed to take ranitidine ? I suffered badly from heartburn and reflux for years so I'm pretty used to it but always took ranitidine to take the edge off.

No, ranitidine says "not while pregnant" in the packet, and pharmacists say "no" as well.

You can take the various things such as Gaviscon - which say on the packet you can take when pregnant.

Hmm I asked a few mums and they said they had it prescribed whilst pregnant. Think ill phone the docs and query, gaviscon never worked for me :(

If the OTC remedies don't work for you then your GP should be willing to prescribe omeprazole which is considered generally safe for use in pregnancy. Hope you manage to get it sorted, heartburn's horrible.

ETA: Having had a quick look online it would seem that things are the other way round in the states, but omeprazole's definitely more widely used here in my experience.
  • If you are prescribed it, I think that's different - but the default position is "not while pregnant", if that makes sense.

I work three days a week which suits fitting round DS and Uni. I am really worried about paying for childcare again - I don't have to with DS as he gets a bus before 8am and is home at 4pm so I work in those hours and luckily only work up the road but sometimes I have to organise family to be here as I do travel across the South West.

I am sure my employer does some vouchers but I need to look into it. It may even pay to drop to two days or move my hours so I do a few each day but only time will tell.

I keep having these horrid nightmares which I remember vividly in the morning - must be the hormoanes. xx

I'm not too worried about money, I only work part time due to changing jobs after my mc and knowing how ill I'd be when I got pregnant again - which I did I'm so glad I'm Not still in my old job would have been a nightmare due to what I did, so once I get maternity pay &child benefit there won't be much of a difference to what I get now. All our money is in one pot so again won't change anything.

I'm thinking then going back to work after about 9 months, I'd like to do a 4 day week, but keep working as a nanny for a year or so before I start my career change, that way I can bring the baby with me and have no child care costs. The other option will be go back to my completely different old career for a couple of years as the pay was high but then I'd need child care or see how much my mum would be willing to do, so I'm not leaning towards that at the moment as I'd rather pick the option of having the baby with me if I can especially if with child care the net pay isnt much different.

    We will see!

Con hope you don't get anymore sickness!

    Morning ladies.

Sorry I've been doing a bit of reading and not posting, not much to report here! Just a stinky cold that I'm trying to fight off.

con1888 the ladies at yoga were talking about heartburn last night, tonic water helps or refreshers! Apparently they are made of something similar to the gaviscon tablets, but much tastier!
 Mini me due March 2014

For heartburn which I think I've definitely started getting now, I take a spearmint rennie tablet an hour before bed and seems to be working.

I bought gaviscon too but the Rennies are working for now & taste fine.
