  • I was a Tesco delivery driver for a few months after i finished uni.

I think about 3 poeple tipped me in that time, but we were not supposed to accept it really.

Seemed to generally be new customers who tipped as well.

Do you tip the man who delivers your bed from Argos? Do you tip the man who comes to check your gas meter.... they all provide a service too but I think we're getting a little bit carried away - this is moneysavingexpert website isn't it? I thought we were all here to save money not to give it away to other people who don't even expect a tip....(the people who do tip the drivers are being over-generous but are probably very nice people unlike me who is described as Uncle scrooge!)

  • I had to ask the Tesco delivery driver to take the bags out of the crates and put them inside my front door because I was ill and couldn't manage it. I got a tut and a roll of the eyes in return and I felt angry because I looked like death warmed up (had just spent 5 weeks in hospital) and didn't want to have to explain it to him! And no, he didn't get a tip.

On the rare occasion I get a take away pizza I don't tip. The binmen/postman doesn't get one either. But I did tip the DFS delivery guys a fiver each because they delivered my very heavy leather sofa on Christmas Eve.
Cos I don't shine if you don't shine.

Just having my first delivery delivered later today - has there been any change to the general feeling since the last post here that tipping shouldn't take place?

I know what you mean, I wondered what to do the first time but I havent tipped them. May be if you keep the service and you have the same driver - then christmas would be a good time to tip?

You wouldnt tip the check out girl if you went in store would you? And as prev said, you dont tip the person that actually wheeled round the supermarket, chose it for you and packed it. It's his job. Just like any delivery person, we'd all be wellllllll out of pocket if we tipped dustbin men, recycling men, delivery men for products, postmen, policemen, milkmen, the list is endless!lol

I do tip the driver sometimes if I have change handy. Back in the day people did give xmas tips to postman, dustman and milkman etc... but that was when you chatted to delivery men and knew the names of your postman, now they change so often and are in such a hurry to meet targets that no-one has time anymore.
  • I don't but I sometimes feel guilty not doing so. But then the price of delivery has gone up so much for some slots I would resent it costing more. Noone tips me when I carry it into the house and put it away.
