Never tipped them either lol
Question for guys, do you ever tip your hairdresser? if so, how much?0 -
They always leave the crates outside the house and not in - if they were inside it would be easier to unload myself. I wouldnt mind if they were unloading other stuff from the van but just to stand there and watch me struggle.....!!?? I will ask for assistance next time as it wont be offered.0

Always tip my barber - Its £5.50 at the moment, I always pay £7 or £8
Its always easier to tip if you are handing over money anyway0 -
Like a lot of people, its never crossed my mind to tip the delivery driver. He's a lovely guy too, so maybe I should.
Thing is, I'm getting my shopping delivered tomorrow, but this time I have gone for the 'green' option and asked for no bags. Because I have just read craker1979's post about the 4 min time slot, I'm worried I'm not going to get it all out of the crates in that 4 mins..........I think a tip might be in order 2morrow:o :rolleyes:I also remember the words of my friends, but I would rather have enemies than friends like youwould like to make it known that ZubeZubes avvy is a DHN, she's not dancing

Therefore any time over and above 4 minutes is putting them behind schedule. Even the smallest delivery will take longer than 4 mins, and that doesnt include any time for actually finding your house (lots of small village and named cottages round here), or time for finding parking spaces, moving the shopping up long/awkward driveways etc4
Whilst this 4 minute policy is not the customer's problem, it is a fact that should be considered when you give your opinion of how "helpful" the drivers are. 90% of people are perfectly capable of taking the bags out of tray that has been properly placed inside the doorstep, while the driver goes to collect another from the van. Im sure 99% of drivers wouldnt hesitate to give assistance to those who really did need it (elderly, pregnant, infirm, injured etc)
Also bear in mind that if a driver comes into your house and puts mud onto your carpet you would be straight on the phone complaining to Tesco asking for them to pay the cleaning bill, or if he knocks over your priceless ming vase while carrying your shopping through im sure you wouldnt be happy
As for those who say the drivers job is easy, that really isnt the case at all. They have to deliver in all extremes of hot/cold/rain/snow, while other employees are in a nice air conditioned store. They normally have extremely tight schedules and DO deal with a lot of crap from customers. You wouldnt believe the amount of fuss some people make over the smallest of things (one of our local drivers once spent 45 minutes at a customers house while she complained that her mince pies had been subsituted for ones without a decorative top!). In fact the drivers have to deal with MORE complaints than the average person working in the shop. Think about it, say you are working in the booze isle, you might have to deal with a few complaints about lack of stock of booze items, but the delivery driver gets complaints about EVERY department as he is delivering stuff from the whole store.
Quite often the drivers around my area have to start work an hour before they are due in, and work through their lunch breaks to get stuff done on time (they dont get paid for this, they do it out of goodwill to get the stuff delivered to customers)
Im not saying everyone should automatically tip, but even a quid would be a welcome bonus to the driver if you feel they have given good friendly service (i know not all do, but there are miserable people in all walks of life), and i can guarantee the next time there is a delay or problem with your order, if you have historically been "nice" to the driver, the driver will be 100% more inclined to help out to rectify the problem, go out of his way to help you out and and give you priority if things are running behind schedule. Also they are more likely to make "gestures of good will" towards you, i.e if you have bought something on BOGOF and its been subbed so you arent getting the good deal they may well refund you for it and let you keep it etc (which isnt strictly allowed, but it happens if the driver likes you)
great points you made
and i hope a lot of people bear this in mind0 -
I must admit I am a rather cheerful person most ofthe time so usually tip EVERYONE!!! The delivery guy the pizza guy all that jazz
BUT
I never tip if someone is rude, in actual fact that just makes me complain, and I never tip if i'm constantly reminded of the fact that service charge isn't included like when you go to pizza hut and the waitress underlines it three times. Also I never tip mini cab drivers coz they always overcharge me. But taxi drivers usually get a tip off me.
People are going to get the wage regardless of wether their nice or not! /They have absolutely no need to be nice and so I feel they should be rewarded for this.
I never forget once when I tipped the delivery guy twenty quid because I was incredibly fed up, he saw this and told me a joke.
Ever since then that delivery guy has gone out of his way to help me and NEVER accepted a tip again! (probably worked out cheaper in the end lol)Merry Christmas MSE!0 -

When I worked for DSG a customer wanted to buy me a xmas drink and put a fiver in my top pocket (as I'd gone out of my way to help him) but I had to respectfully decline.
I would probably think about a tip at xmas when they would be working their socks off - after all, we tip the binmen at xmas when they are busy.
I agree N.H.S. workers are not allowed any niceties, from people who are grateful, SO why should binmen etc...... expect it and be allowed ??:T :A :T :A:T :A :T :A :T :A0 -

i don't tip all the time. but around xmas time i always give the bin men a crate of fosters , the milkman a tip. (when we used to have the same postlady i would give her a card with a tip in it) we often tip takeaway drivers , taxis and yes i even tip the hairdressers ( i have given a £10 tip in the past for hair dressers)
Why u ask. No i am not loaded but i like to show my appreication and i am very gratefull for the services they provide.i enjoying giving tips and letting them know how much i appreciate it.
maybe i just a very kind person. i don't know. but i'm happy with what i do.0 -
Hi
To the person that replied to my earlier no I don't tip them. They don't take mine through to the kitchen and son't walk up stairs. If they did i might tip them , but I am not tipping them on the off chance that they might help out an old dear. That is their job to take them up the stairs and into the kitchen, although I don't ask them to. As I said I bet they don't share their tips with the person that packed the shopping and they should.0
