Thanks Sunil. Why do you think it's not a good choice? We decided to go that way as they don't charge for holding (it says) and would mean any dealing could be done on line. What's the better way? I'm not a regular share holder, had some way back but only a few leftovers now.
The nominee service is likely to be more expensive when it comes to selling your shares. In fact, it may even be cheaper to pay the 'transfer out' charge the RM nominee will charge (£10) and use another broker then selling via the RM nominee (depends on the size of the holding)
This is slightly sensationalist but explains the position
If you had a share certificate instead, several brokers who are much cheaper when it comes to selling the shares online at a flat rate and also don't charge any annual or inactivity fees - you simply send the certificate to them (for free) and they add them to your account (or apply via a broker in the first place)
Regards

Just seen this on the news, I have £100k cash sat in my bank account doing nothing.
At this late stage what is the best way for to lump on ?
I have seen the max on official site £10k by debit card
Apologies in advance, as this will sound rather pompous... but I would be very concerned about making a £100k investment based on something you heard on the news!
I've applied for shares, but only to the tune of about 5% of my invested funds. I don't really want to risk a higher proportion than that in any individual share.0 -
I read in one of the papers that the price will be announced at 7am on Thursday, allocations on Friday, and when trading begins it will be as follows:
Royal Mail has not yet qualified for a full listing on the London Stock Exchange and the stock is subject to London Stock Exchange rule 7050. This means that any trades placed from 8am on Friday 11th October 2013 until 4.30pm on Monday 14th October 2013 will be taken on a 'When Issued' basis. If the stock is not admitted to the ‘Official List’ or to listing/quotation on an approved organisation, every transaction effected under this rule is void.
Then again I read that retail investors can`t trade until 8am Tuesday 15th.
If the shares are lying in my account on Friday or Monday, can I trade on a "when issued" basis.
Can anyone clarify?0 -
Can anyone recommend a good online broker and as I live in Spain are there any restrictions on overseas investors?0

What if £100k *is* 5% of your invested funds, you insensitive clod!
Note smiley and this -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insensitive_clodI am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -
Some help please.
If I want to sell the shares on the morning they go public, what do I have to ask my broker for before hand?0 -
Is it true that the institutions will have the opportunity to flog off their shares a few days before the public? If that is the case then won't the demand for these shares have been satisfied by then, leading to a price fall by the time the public start selling their shares?0

How did I just know someone was going to say that!0 -
Having read through this and other threads, I decided to apply for £750 through the government site, with the option to get a share certificate.
From speaking to people who know a lot more than me, the best idea *seems* to be stagging these shares. I understand that I would be able to do this via phone/online through an intermediary broker. My question is how exactly I would do this, and would there be a delay since I am getting the certificate rather than doing it through a nominee service?0
