Hopefully, one of the good things about this floatation will be to make people realise how easy it is to buy and sell shares, and the potential rewards.
Unfortunately with 'no brainer' IPOs like this it won't highlight the potential risks. I'm sure anyone who's been through a stockmarket crash or two will be aware that the current frothy valuations being bandied about may not last beyond the next RM strike ballot.
The real winners on this will be the brokers who will make shedloads.
BTW I'm 'in'0 -
it is easier to buy a new stock than it is to open a new savings account, and the rewards are potentially much greater.when you do your research and see just how many relatively safe companies are paying 4% net or more, you realise how attractive the markets are.
Everyone would want to sell shares and go back into savings accounts, share prices would crash.“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -
There was mention on the Today program this morning that the politicianssaying that this IPO is vastly undervalued could be in breach of someregulations. Here is a hypothetical situation:
1. Mr A has listened to the politicians saying that the float is just givingprofit to those who can afford to invest, so he decides to invest as he isfortunate to be able to.
2. IPO takes place and very soon the share price plummets to way below theoffer price.
Question is : Has Mr. a got any possibility of claiming any of his losseswere incurred due to the 'loose speak' comments of some politicians, some ofwho were or are in government with inside knowledge of how the Royal Mail wasperforming as a public company?
'No' is the simple answer.
Every applicant has to agree their decision is based solely on the Prospectus. Yet few people appear to have read it.“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -
How long does X-O take to process funds? I paid in via by debit card last night but got a sneaky feeling i might have missed the boat by the time the funds come into the account. I've emailed them but am waiting a response.
Thanks0 -

No confirmation email, no money taken from my bank account (i used debit card). This was 10 hours ago, is this normal or should I be worried that my application did not work?
Check - preece says this happened to him and it went through but when I did the same last week on an ipad it didn't (this was as the site used 'verified by visa' (or the mastercard version) to verify your identity which doesn't seem to work on ipads)

They only process funds during the working day, and then it depends how busy they are, I have found anywhere between couple of minutes to a couple of hours. No doubt today is a very busy day for them so may be longer. Bear in mind X-O is a rock bottom price so you can't expect the quickest service. You should see your money in your account under 'funds available'.“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -

Also, surely politicians should have the right to speak their mind on such a significant state sell-off. It's not as if the Labour MP in question is party to any confidential price-sensitive information0 -

Thanks for this. I was going to wait until tonight to decide but looks like it will have to be sooner.0 -
Read in the Daily Telegraph today the government have not ruled out the possibly the shares may be done a first come first served basis.
However if this is case why have they not made some statement supporting this. It would certainly save a lot of time and effect for the late comers.0 -
I'm new to X-O and would like some advice..I would like to apply for 4k worth of Royal Mail Shares today, should I chose the Nominee account or ISA account?
