I'm edging towards buying £1000 worth of shares and will want to sell for an instant profit(I hope) as soon as allowed. I want to do so with the minimum of fuss and I think the best way to go about this at this late stage is to buy direct and hold the shares in RM's nominee account.
I a prepared to pay more in fees for this situation but on their website I see that RM have a standard 1% of transaction(min £17.50) if dealing on internet or £25 if dealing over the phone. It also says that there will be a temp phone and internet dealing service which can be used to sell shares for 0.75%(min £7.50) of the value of the transaction.
So which are the charges I should be expecting? Obviously I would prefer the temp selling service charges which seem pretty cheap to me.

Replying to self ... I found a Helpline number 0330 123 0147 in the FAQ ... they were really quick, which I was not expecting. No I can't do anything about this unless I get an allocation, but if I do the email will give me a contact number for Equaniti (which is E-QUENatty, i wiasn't expecting that either :-)) and I can then ask them.

    I do hate forms :-/ !!

    it's actually Equiniti.

I wonder what the doubters in this thread think now?

The same thing will happen in a few years time when they try reduce the number of small shareholders or trace deceased shareholders and people who have moved and not notified the registrar.

Doesn't applying at all mean you are also one of your so-called greedy little speculators?

For the record I've not applied

Not at all. I have bought for the income potential.

Its looking less attractive now than it did a week ago, because the current over enthusiasm will lead to the shares being sold at the top of the price range. The fundamental problems, like declining letter volumes remain.
a 1% fall in letter volumes is £75million off the bottom line. It still costs the same to send a postman to each house whether he is delivering 3 letters or 2. Rising parcels volumes won't compensate for this because parcels are subject to stiff competition from other carriers with lower staff costs and less militant unions.
Declining letter volumes dos not lower costs, wheras increasing parcels volumes increases costs.
Is it the underwriters talking the share price up?

I was aware there would be a delay in being able to sell; it was the magnitude of this delay that I was uncertain about!

This, when would the seller get their maoney back in their account if it was just done for a quick profit (hopefully).

Second question, once I submit my payment, th epage just went back to the first page which was the introduction on https://www.gov.uk/royalmailshares. No confirmation email, no money taken from my bank account (i used debit card). This was 10 hours ago, is this normal or should I be worried that my application did not work? Thanks in advance.

similar with me. no confirmation. no email. webpage asked me to try again.

but rang bank and they said money was being processed.

Phoned royalmailshares help and they said it has gone though and gave me reference number. ( they were very helpful )

Careful trying again as luckily for me bank rejected subsequent attempts due to lack of funds.

Hopefully, one of the good things about this floatation will be to make people realise how easy it is to buy and sell shares, and the potential rewards.

Once you have created an account with an on line broker, it is easier to buy a new stock than it is to open a new savings account, and the rewards are potentially much greater.

With interest rates on savings at ridiculously low levels, it would be nice to see more people becoming investors instead of savers.

Like many others, my first involvement in buying shares was in the hope of making a quick buck, but when you do your research and see just how many relatively safe companies are paying 4% net or more, you realise how attractive the markets are. Its fun to do your own research on companies, and it gives you a new interest in commerce.

Surely one of the dangers is that if this is successful and makes people a good quick return, people will not appreciate the potential risk to stocks and shares.

Provided people are aware of the risks then its definitely a good motivator - convinced me into doing it and the OH too.

There was mention on the Today program this morning that the politicianssaying that this IPO is vastly undervalued could be in breach of someregulations. Here is a hypothetical situation:

    1. Mr A has listened to the politicians saying that the float is just givingprofit to those who can afford to invest, so he decides to invest as he isfortunate to be able to.

    2. IPO takes place and very soon the share price plummets to way below theoffer price.

Question is : Has Mr. a got any possibility of claiming any of his losseswere incurred due to the 'loose speak' comments of some politicians, some ofwho were or are in government with inside knowledge of how the Royal Mail wasperforming as a public company?
