I have just applied in a bit of a hurry and solemnly ticked the upper box under "Where your shares will be held" (or similar) failing to take in the NEXT bit that said "tick this box if you want a share certificate."

You expect to choose a box on these things ... in this case they are BOTH alternatives to the Nominee Share Service.

    The two options were:
Your shares will be held on your behalf in the Royal Mail Nominee Share Service. If you wish instead to receive a share certificate please tick this box. Information about the Royal Mail Nominee Share Service can be found in the Prospectus.

    AND

Please tick if you wish to receive a paper copy of your Royal Mail Nominee Share Service welcome pack
Only the first would opt you out of the nominee service.

If you wanted to opt in am sure you could do so once you have the certificate but I can't see that as being a very popular thing to do.

Replying to self ... I found a Helpline number 0330 123 0147 in the FAQ ... they were really quick, which I was not expecting. No I can't do anything about this unless I get an allocation, but if I do the email will give me a contact number for Equaniti (which is E-QUENatty, i wiasn't expecting that either :-)) and I can then ask them.

    I do hate forms :-/ !!

The only thing about getting a certificate is the delay in being able to sell.
If you`re in no hurry all you do is join a broker and send them the certificate to hold the shares in a nominee account.
    Then you can sell whenever.

The closing date for this IPO is 7th October 2013. Should you wish to apply for Royal Mail shares through Halifax Share Dealing, you need to have elected and funded your account no later than midnight on 7th October 2013.

The closing date for the IPO is the 8 October. Many brokers and the website will let you apply tomorrow.

The 7th October is Halifax's own deadline. Different brokers will set different deadlines. I think the website will let you apply via debit card until 23:59 tomorrow.

I just applied for £1k of shares there

Any ideas when we'll know the allocation?

I didn't think the money would be deducted until such a decision was made. Since i applied online this was taken via debit card instantly.

If, for instance, i get allocated nothing or say 750, how and when will i get my money back?

Last question - i've never bought shares before and therefore never used the ISA shares allocation. How would i assign any RM shares into my ISA allowance?

Thanks Sunil. Why do you think it's not a good choice? We decided to go that way as they don't charge for holding (it says) and would mean any dealing could be done on line. What's the better way? I'm not a regular share holder, had some way back but only a few leftovers now.

Yes we thought if there was a sudden rush we would at least have the option to sell. Though i am not planning to. I tend to hang onto things till they fall apart :-)

I admit everything I've seen said midnight tomorrow. But since 27th September I don't think I have seen any ads in the press or on line - obviously looking in the wrong place, so nearly missed it.

I think it said somewhere the money would be taken - I realise as well that I have applied for dividends by cheque (that way I'm more likely to notice them ...) which means that I will get any unallocated money back by cheque too ... No idea when! Another thing I possibly didn't think through thoroughly enough. You live and learn ...

How long does it take X-O to approve your account?

I applied to open one a couple of hours ago & it said immediately that it had been approved & e-mail confirmation will be sent.

    So far no e-mail & can't login.

With most IPO's they send a cheque when they send the share certificates out (by 21 October). If you paid by debit card or are in the nominee service, I don't know if they will do it electronically instead

You would have needed to apply for them within an ISA account. Now, you would need to see the shares and buy them back within an ISA.

As you can make over £10,000 in capital gains each year without paying CGT, a shares ISA will be of little use to you anyway.
