Which version and edition is it? You can save the Product key with the MJB KeyFinder and reinstall it afterwards.
Install the program now and run it. Once it produces the results, you can choose File > Save as and save the resulting file to a location on the external hard drive.
iPhone is fine as it will be a pictorial for you to follow whilst you are installing. Quite simple.
    Any other important programs?

First you need to sign into this forum with your iphone so that you can ask questions if necessary.

Secondly, you should go to this website or this one on the iPhone to see which is easiest for you to navigate.

Let me know if any or none work for you.

Then we'll decide how to proceed.

without wishing to interfere with nifty's advice, if you did a full macrium disk image backup (not clone) to the external drive, then whatever happens you can always put the machine back to exactly how it is now should anything go wrong. video in the speedup sticky. The macrium boot cd you created is to enable you to boot and recover the machine from the .img (macrium backup) file on the backup drive, the cd on it's own is of no use

I thought she had already done that. Has she not? She spoke of the backup and the Recovery disc. Perhaps you can double check with her before I proceed.

The plan was to have the Macrium Backup to one folder on the external and to use the Easy Transfer Wizard to another folder.

Nothing is likely to go wrong under my stewardship, but no harm in having those two options at hand either.
