It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world
  • Checking in, today was nearly a SFD until realised I needed milk and trashy magazines, £6.69 was spent but that is acceptable given what I could of spent. Eh x

Come to confess that I suck at maths. (I bet you would never have guessed).
    :o

I went to check my budget account today and I only have £37.50 left. I have now realised that I forgot to add on the £34.96 that I spent in new look to the budget and the other missing £20 is from OH's sister's birthday voucher.
    :(

I know where the money has gone, I just stupidly didn't include it as being part of the food budget as it wasn't food. But I forgot that it was still part of the money (really need a contingency fund for stuff like that).
    :embarasse

On the plus side, this was a spend-free day (took my mum to tescimos so she could get some shopping and do her lottery). But I didn't buy anything.
On the plus side (as a massive bonus), mum has offered to buy me ingredients to make lasagne, as long as I give her some of the finished product. So that's awesome.
    :D

Work again tomorrow, and thursday and friday so should mean three more no spend days as I can't be bothered shopping after work.
    :)

Whilst confessing, I might as well put in here that I did use my credt card yesterday but it was for a xmas pressie from my auntie to me and she had already given me the £20 for it. So that money has already made it into the "holiday" pot along with the £10 that I got from emptying the banky of smush.
    :/

Remaining positive (I like to be positive), I still have £37.50 left plus what I handed over to my parents which is £237.50 more than I had on the 11th September. So I am doing better.

A small spendy day today.. must try harder. Tomorrow probably wont be a SFD either..sigh. Still my thinking is changing and much more consideration being done before spending.:D

  • This challenge certainly gets us thinking about our spending.
I love a challenge, so aiming for the NSD's is just the kind of thing that gets me going.
It's great to get to the end of the day and be able to add another. NSD to my signature. It's a bit like adding a star to your chart but for grown ups.
But the real bonus of course, is actually sticking within the budget and to the planned spend.
Planning to have another NSD today.
Wouldn't it be amazing to have planned so well, that we have extra NSD's at the end of the month AND a bit of cash left over as well.
Now that would be an achievement.

  • Sorry I haven't posted in days but not much to write! This thread moves so quickly I can hardly keep up but I will find out in a minute why fyggy is pondering a bikini and shoe spend. I'm sure they are justified. And Stewby don't be too down about forgetting a couple of spends. That's where these challenges really help - they show you where your 'missing' money was going in the past. You ARE doing brilliantly and this is you just starting your MSE madness, so I can see great things for you! NSK is indeed an inspiration to us all!
Halfway now, and everyone is doing great.
Today should be SFD so I'll update sig later. Good luck everyone for the rest of the month. X

  • Duplicate posts! Not sure why but at the moment it keeps telling me I am trying to post twice yet I only hit 'post' once. Sorry.

Fyggy you need that bikini honey. You can't go on hols with a 'too big' bikini, it's not right. You deserve it for all your hard work. And better get OH some shoes, I think this winter is meant to be fierce so we can't have him going about in holey shoes, and even if only you see him in the boxers I think some new ones are in order.

Just think, previously you would have had the bikini, the shoes, the boxers and the Italian meal even without a tax rebate, so you are doing brilliantly. X

LAGL Sorry to hear about the house nightmare, hope it gets sorted soon. And LSD Hope the vom stops soon!

fyggy I'm not sure what I'd do really, maybe shoes and bikini as essential as if you do a lot of activity you want proper support (boobs & feet!) But no one apart from you will see the boxers so probs wouldn't bother with those!

EverHopeful09 I don't want to be a party pooper but why did you need trashy magazines? I understand needing milk and foodstuffs, clothing when holes get too much, but not sure magazines count for the challenge - next time could free gossip or magazine sites on the internet be used instead? Not having a go, just reminding us all we're on a sfd challenge really (I know I need slapping back on to the wagon at times too!)

I had a sfd yesters and should have another today, on a roll now. Got a dilemma though please help! I moved at the end of last month and don't know anyone here, I signed up for my local cub group to help out and they're having their team social tomorrow night which is beers and a curry out. I've got just about enough to cover it if I'm a cheapo and just do soft drinks and cheapest curry and it would be a good opportunity to meet new people, but also it wasn't planned or budgeted for so I really don't want to spend! Advice welcome please.
  • Oops... think I may have broken the rules. Sorry, NSK!! :( My mum invited me to go down to London with her to see a show (her treat) at the beginning of November, so I was planning on budgeting it in for next month's outgoings. But I realised last night that as it's the first weekend in November, I can't wait until then to book train tickets. So I booked those last night as I came in at £20 less than expected on this week's weekly shop and I knew I could 'borrow' from the grocery budget. Then I realised that that's technically against the rules of not booking new events when the month's started. Oops...
