SFD for me today as I've been at home all day.
Sorted through the folder with all household paperwork in and that's alot more organised now.
I've recently changed car and house insurance suppliers and also the energy one. I was getting to the stage when I didn't know who I was getting what from.
I usually do a roast for dinner but today I've made stew and dumplings.
The simple things in life seem to be alot less hassle.
I'm chuffed with the NSD progress and trying to use everything up without spending all the shopping money. I'm going to use what's left in that pot to make an extra payment on the energy bill.
Big spend next month as I'll be paying £250 for the logs for the burner.
Definitely worth it though. It looks lovely when it's lit and I'd sooner watch that than the TV.
Have a nice evening.NSK Zombie # SFD 7/15 Food Bank £0/£5

Yay for your DH! Can he do classes for the unruly DH/DPs out there?
Mine did try to be helpful by being frugal with his use of carrots for his cottage pie until I pointed out that it was cheaper to use more carrots than more mince :wall::wall:
Argh! I guess his is trying though!Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
Ok so apart from the already budgeted for dishwasher tablets and washing powder costing £6.98 from the shopping pot it's been a SFD! Whoop! so thats 12.
Called DH from S@vers (my new favourite place for cheap stuff) to ask whether I should buy 48 finish tablets for £4.99 or 36 fairy ones for £3.99 he pointed out to me that the finish ones were rubbish and often meant we needed to wash the load again and therefore the fairy ones would be better value for money as they did the job better.
Made french onion soup for lunch and there is another portion for my lunch one day this week, also I think there may be left over cottage pie for another meal this week. I portioned up all that reduced meat and we have 3 meals for the kids, 2 meals for us and another family meal with the mince (plus leftovers)
I won't lie, I am finding this really hard. I've been even more hardcore and I am not buying any toiletries, just finishing off the ones I have. I have never been one for spending loads on stuff but it has certainly made me realise that there is nothing wrong with buying cheaper products.
The shopping budget worries me, DH said not to worry about the £30.21 he has spent on food without my say so and that I can pay him back another time. I've worked out i have £9.71 left for stuff like milk and friut for the kids. We will manage it though. I just had hoped we would have money to carry across.
I've meal planned for the weektoo so we should be ok. It's only 12 days after all....Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
Good afternoon everyone, finally I'm getting round to posting (must go back to thread one and see if daily posting is part of the challenge
)
So, 13 days in - let me try to sum up my month so far...
Was on holiday for the first three days, which turned into the first six days as I was having such a good time I decided to stay little longer (Expensive? Kinda..Budgeted for? Nope..Worth it? DEFINITELY!!!). So there we have 6 spend days right there - oops!
Since I got home I have kept my head down and worked, rarely venturing outside the front door - yeay, lots of SFDs
I had a massive supermarket splurge during the week and have enough good food to last at least til next weekend so hopefully I can claw back some more SFDs!
I was at a birthday party last night and managed to scrounge a lift there. I had budgeted £25 for a taxi home (not changing buses late at night) and £20 for drinks. Well, it was a free bar and I managed to persuade my friend to give me a lift home as well! A great night out costing 0p :j I felt a little mean giving a £20 voucher as a gift, and if I'd known about the free bar I'd have stretched to a little more, but I know my friend doesn't care about stuff like that and was happy to see me there. Maybe I'll pay for her dinner next time we go out? Or maybe I'll wait to see what kind of bashing my misc budget gets before offering that!
I have been thinking of getting a slow cooker - my friend has one and it's amazing. So many nights I come home and I'm too tired to cook. After my free night out last night, maybe I could afford one? I have a £10 voucher for a store that has a decent one for £19.99 so really it would just cost me £10. For lovely lentil stew ready cooked when I come home from a hard day's work (great recipe Kat by the way!). I'll look into it when I next have a spend day.
Off to yoga now. My body hurts a little from too many free red wines and jigging on the dance floor last night! Hopefully the yoga will sweat out the toxins and the exercise will clear my head!
So, my figures for the month....
SFD: 6/20
Food: £41.25/£80
Petrol: £50/£50
Misc: £20/£1000 -
Sfd day today
Didnt need anything and havent been near a shop!
Started eb4ying, got 6 items on so far! Got a huge pile of clothes to put on as i just sorted my whole wardrobe out. Just hope i get some bids now.
As for the maternity clothes i mentioned yesterday, im going to sell this big pile of other bits first and then start on those, although i did list a pair of maternity jeans that didnt fit me ever!Still here..... but working on that!0 -
The latest from me, well Friday night was extra shift number 8 :j
I had worked out back in September I needed 8 extra shifts on the new rota between end of August and first week of November to pay off my loan by December. Now I have done 9 extra shifts as last night was also an extra. I've just got to stay fit and healthy to complete my usual shifts until 10th November which is the cut off for November pay for my plan to remain on track.
I also got a minuscule pay rise, I suppose I shouldn't complain at least I have a job in which to get a pay rise.
I managed to get 6 SFD in a row. I have spent an additional £13.62 on food shopping. I won't make a saving of £32.99 from my shopping budget to cover the cost of the coat, but I should, fingers crossed make a saving.Debt-Free day 30th September 20140 -

My slow cooker is definitely one of the best purchases I've made! I don't use it nearly enough these days but I do use it a lot in the winter for stews and so on. It's great for cheaper cuts of meat because you don't even notice that they're cheaper when they've been slow cooked.Novuna personal finance 0% 4-year £518/£1866Credit card debt free! I completey agree. I use mine loads in the winter and it's fab for stuff like pulled pork.Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
Oh look! It's home time. Moneymash I know have enough to see me through to debt freedom in December but I shan't shout it too loud just yet..
About to head home on the bike, I shall bid thee all good night now as I am back up at 0500 tomorrow so it's gonna be a squeeze getting everything done when I land home...
My hot water bottle / PJ's and quilty are calling me like a homing beacon...
Onwards Chickadees to another week..(am planning 5 SFD's in a row)..“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".0
