  • Sorry didn't mean that :o you just looked different, i.e. not long hair, you had short brown hair. I'll stop now this is getting awkward;)

Why it made me chortle at work and right now anyone that can do that needs a pat on the back.....:rotfl:

Look on the board "competition time" too. I entered a few there. Some are just like a FB page or fill out this survey.

Just been to LIDL for my fruit, rolls and cold cuts top up shop. Also got a 140g bag of peanut flips, don't think they'll make it home :o

P.S. how do you cut and layer your long hair. Mine is just growing out again and just above my shoulder plades, but I do the pony tail on top of head technique

  • Soooooo ready for October to be over. Need a fresh start to a new month. October so far has been absolutely crap. Within first 2 days of the month, my car died and had to pay back my overdraft from my student days 8 years ago to Natwest. Really proud of myself in terms of how I have dealt with both, but both have meant an increase in my debt which puts our DFD back a few months which makes me sad and extremely grumpy!
First my car died. I had a VW Beetle - not the most sensible car for a family with 4 children, but it was MY car and I loved it. Hubby had been on at me for ages to part exchange it and I had managed to get out of it. Car then died and needed lots of work doing. First thing I did was look for alternative cars which could accommodate a family of 6. Completely fell in love with the idea of a SUV, ideally a Nissan Quashquai +2 or a Volvo XC90. Worked out that if I could put my car down as a deposit I could then get a finance deal for around £10k and get the car I wanted. For the last 15 years, this is absolutely what I would have done without a second thought. HOWEVER, I then came on here and started reading through everyone's posts. Just taking some time to pause and think about our current financial position and where we could be a year from now if we keep our belts tightened made me realise that I get more excited about being debt free than I do about having a lovely car. The result was that I only spent £500 on top of what I got for my old Beetle, and ended up with a Zafira (which I don't love/don't hate). At the end of the day its 4 wheels to get from a to band transport the kids around. Two years from now we will financially be in a position where I can think about getting the car I really want but for the time being, I am proud to have taken the sensible and hugely cheaper option.
Then I had a letter from Natwest to say that they were going to have to increase the amount of interest on my student overdraft. I have been £1800 OD at Natwest for the last 10 years, and because I don't use that account anymore, just kept paying £30 a month into the account to cover the £30 interest they were charging me a month. So, paid the £1800 off with my 0% credit card and will pay that off before they start charging interest. Has cost me £40 in balance transfer fees, but that's still a lot less than I have been paying in interest, and at least I am dealing with that debt too now. That means that when I finally pay off all the loans and credit cards, we will truly be debt free including overdrafts. In total, our CC debt has therefore gone up by £2500 this month, but its all on 0% and now encompassed as part of the plan to get rid of ASAP. Just so frustrating though as still can't help feeling like we have taken a step backwards.
Ho hum - Otherwise reasonably OK so far this month. Over the few days where car crisis etc... happened lost track of when had spent and when hadn't so am not sure of NSDs so rather than give up for the month (VERY DANGEROUS!!!) am trying to keep any spends to an ABSOLUTE minimum to get thorough to the end of the month.
Off to try and catch up on some of the last 10 days posts - hope everyone is doing better than I am!!!!

  • Beckyboo I am so proud of you! Seriously proud. Well done for not giving in to a £10000 loan...??? Why would anyone do that to themselves... I am so happy you only had to part with £500 - however it's pretty awful that it would come on top of the OD issue - you are not, however, taking a step back when your entire thought process towards money has changed!

    You should congratulate yourself!

Oh I gave in. My jeans are just getting too tight and the tops too. 5 months in and I succumbed to buying maternity clothes. I don't have any left from my last pregnancy as I didn't need them, just wore my normal jeans under bumb and stretchy tops and hoodies. But with the second you gain weight faster at the start (same weight now 17 weeks as at 23 with DS). So bought two dresses and a cardi from the Tesco website but got a 6.06% cashback deal. Was hoping to find a voucher online but there were none. At least the dresses I can maybe amend afterwards whereas new bigger jeans I couldn't, so not completely wasted money on 4 months wear.

Well done on the self restraint re the car Beckyboo, that sounded like a tough start to the month and well done on not giving up.

Can you message me too? I have been meaning to go to hair dresser for a couple of months, but car repairs keep scuppering my plans!

Looks like people are doing well on here . . . I'm finding October a lot more difficult that September. Not mentally so much, as this month seems to be a lot more social things (that I can't get out of I hasten to add, important birthdays, friends visiting from Australia that kind of thing) The expenses are totting up *sigh*

Anyway, I have no plans for the weekend, so hoping to get some frrelance work done, and not too much money spent. Wish me luck!
